All I've done to the cooling system is a 180 t-stat, and gor rid of that power robbing, HELICOPTER SOUNDING, belt clutch and fan.
I tow boats, etc. NO PROBLEM.
Last Saturday night, I was driving from San Antonio, to Houston, Actually Sunday morn abouit 2 am, and it was so cold, I even had the A/C off.
i.e.-no fan turning. It stayed right above the lower hash mark where it always does.
Like I've said before, if the fan did ANYTHING at hwy speeds, ANYTHING AT ALL, it WOULD be a performance mod!! It would be pulling air faster than you're driving!

Okay, I had to cancel the order for the K&N air intake. Spoke with K&N and SoCal Dakotas and it is not yet certified in California for 04's. Will be in 2-4 months, but not yet. Looks like I'll have to wait.
Learned one thing good though. The 04 4.7 already has a HO Intake, so I'm good to go there. So far, Ive pretty much decided on
HO FIPK (once they are certified)
New throttle body
Am considering new cams, though I don't know how to put them in. I'd have to pay someone for that. Any idea how much this might cost?
