I have a 02 sport rc w/ the 4.7 and a 5speed. I have about 13k on it. My question is, how hard can it be driven without causeing damage? As long as she is properly warmed up will i be ok? Or do i need to back off? Thanks in advance for the replies

Depends on what you mean by hard. Drag racing at every stop light? Or towing a 13,000# trailer? Or running 95+ on the freeway for hours at a time?

Good maint with quality parts is the key. Mechanical things break, that's a given. The more/harder they are used, the more they break. Dodge trucks can take some severe beatings and keep running. But they do eventually break.

134K miles on my '97 CC SLT 5.2, bought it with 52K miles, and it's been hard driven ever since. I get it WOT every morning and every evening when pulling onto the highway, running it 2nd gear up till about 5,200 RPM's (auto, but manually shifting it). I tow a 10' open trailer quite often, and will get WOT with it (smooth though, don't want to jerk it apart, hehe). Haven't had anything but the nromal stuff for our dakotas (intake manifold gasket). Run 10w-30 oil, oil change somewhere around 3k-5k miles (not religious with it, but should be). I drive it like I stole it, and she keeps rolling, and rolling, and rolling, and...

According to Covington Pike Dodge in Memphis, TN (my dealership) even 1 hard start or a shift that takes less than 2 seconds between constitutes abuse and voids your warranty.

Maybe that's why he didn't ask the dealer. Mine see's some hard driving; I'll back off when something breaks. Nothing's broken yet...

I'm not sure of your definition of hard, but I broke mine in bouncing it off the factory 115 mph speed limiter (AAFES suggested 350 mile break in period of uneven speed). Then had KenneBell turn it up and spent the next 13,000 miles bouncing it off the new 135 mph Speed limiter or cruise set at 120+ mph (I was in Germany on the Auto Bahns).

Ah next, hard 3,500+ rpm clutch dumps on Mickey Thompson ET Streets 28x11.5-16's. More than 430 trips down the drag strip, 5 trophies and several 3rd places (no trophy for 3rd teet).

At 46,000 miles the tranny sincros kinda went south, but still drivable for the average Joe that didn't bring the rpm's up over 5,000 and try to shift. It would scratch on shifts that was between 5,000 rpms and 7,000 rpm's. I have the 70,000 mile warranty and had it rebuilt by the local Dodge house. My cost $100, their cost $2,099.35. Local Dodge Dealer (Owner) and lead Service Writer here is at the track Nearly every Friday Night. Cheers on my truck and fixes it on Mondays if it breaks. No warranty issues at all.

My suggestion: Drive It Like You Stole It.

Later,

Who takes 2 seconds to shift, I think my Grandmother shifts faster than that. I had a CJ7 when i was a kid, it had the longest throw on the shifter i had ever seen, and it sure didnt take 2 seconds to shift.

Tnjones: the factory determins the warantee criteria not the dealership. the dealership can cry all they want about abuse this abuse that, when it comes down to it Dodge has the final say not some POS dealership.
Whoever told you that is so full of bs it's comiing out their ass, in truck loads.
