 Subject: PCM question

I've been reading a bunch about the Mopar PCM and custom flashing, etc. I have a Dak federal 99 4x4 w/318 auto. If I buy the Mopar PCM, it looks like I can't DIY? I have to have the computer flashed by a Dodge dealer? So... after I spend the farm mortgage on the PCM, I need to pay a Dodge guy? Why wouldn't I just send my stock PCM to someone for a custom flash? What are the pro's/cons either way?

The flach part after a Mopar PCM is having your vin entered. krcperformance.com and v8performance.com can both do this I believe.
