fianlly found some new headers for my new 3.9 engine I'm putting in my 88 dak LE.What would be the best way to run the exhaust off the headers??Not worried about how loud it will be...I want true duals..Do I need an H pipe?I got edlebrock shorty headers.I'm ordering 2 hi flow cats also.

Thanks for any comment, good or bad :D

Curtis

well you said any comment, true duals will hurt the performance
on a 3.9 IMHO, our 6 cylinder engines are anemic enough as
they are already without killing off the back pressure

i'm running headers on mine and kept the stock pipes but put in
an aftermarket cat and a dynomax muffler, I used to run a 3"
system as I was going to supercharge and I felt the loss in
bottom end just doing that and that was running the stock y
pipe still, i think duals are overkill, if you had an 8 i'd say go for
it

Mark,
so you think just running a single pipe back off the headers w/ a hi flow cat and dynamax will add more HP?

Thanks!

I think that will work for you yes. I wouldn't exceed 2 1/2" in pipe size, if you want dual pipes off your muffler don't exceed 2 1/4", if you only want 1 muffler pipe coming out the rear than 2 1/2" is as large as you want to go.

This way,I'll just need a y pipe coming off my headers going into the cat right?

thanks again

Just my $.02, but I don't think true duals will hurt, as long as the pipes aren't too big.

I don't have experience with the 3.9, but I had a 2.8 V6 S-10 with headers and 2" duals all the way back (yeah yeah, I know, refrain from flaming). Opening up the exhaust, along with other mods, realy woke up the V6. Even though it was a POS V6 S10 it would run 15's at the track, this was almost 20 years ago, but it would spank Camaro and Firebird V8's. Man those were the days, bolt on anything that made more power and no emission nazi's snuffin at your tail pipe.

If you run duals, put in a balance tube, H Pipe.

i was planing on bolting on some parts to my 1991 3.9L dakota. i was looking for a set of headers, a chip, and possibly a new tb. i was reading what DSW said about beating camaro's and firebirds, well my friend has a 1998 GT and i would love to blow his doors off without blowing the bank. Any suggestions would be helpfull!
