Hey all just found the website and i love it. I have a 2002 D dakota slt crew cab. My father just gave it to me. I was wondering what the hp was and how much it would increase if i put a good air filter in. Thanks
Dusty

My truck has some info in the glove box. It is on a sticker. Or you could look at that sheet that breaks down everything on your truck before you buy it. If you kept that then it should help.

The only thing needed to figure the hp is which motor; tranny and rear will not affect stock hp rating. So, 4.7 or 5.9 liter ?

Hey i found it in the glove box like Davy said and found it is a v8 magnum, with a 4 speed auto, and an axle ratio of 3.55.

look under the hood and there will be a white piece of paper not close to you by the radiator (unless i'm wrong or you're lucky) but on top of one of the accessories. just keep looking under the hood, it'll say 4.7 or 5.9 somewhere

I think the 4.7 is a distributorless engine. The 4.7 also looks significantly different than a 5.2/5.9. I also think if the 8th digit of your VIN is a Z, you have a 5.9.

man, i'm such an idiot. if it has spark plug wires, it's a 5.9 if it doesn't it's a 4.7 geez, could there be a simpler test. if it's a crew cab not a 4 door it has to be a 4.7 i'm 99% sure 5.9s were only on rt and 4 doors in 2002. your 4.7 has 235 hp and 295 lb torque (that's darn close if not on the nose) your first mod should be a ho cam. i did a chip and air intake and am dying to get the cam. should have done that first but i love the sound of the air intake.

seriously, 2000 didn't have a 5.2 v8 either. 1999 saw the last of the 5.2 dakota.
