I've heard of some people removing their clutch fans.. and going with electric fans, but my only question is, what exactly does this do, and what should i expect out of a 97 5.2 cc 4x4 with 125k miles on it

the idea is you free up a few horses because you aren't slinging around that 10 pound weight off the end of your water pump so the engine will spool up a little faster and most likely your water pump will last longer too

personally as someone who has done this mod, unless you are desperate for every last bit of horsepower you can free up, save your money

i've noticed no gains in mpg, if there is any improvement for you it would be miniscule

i bought a flex a lite fan (black magic 150), but their adjustable thermostats don't work (went through 3 of them and many calls to tech support was no help either), you might look into perma cool for an electric fan

could cost some $130 when all is said and done for shipping and what not

or you could just use the dodge R/T electric fan, I did this to my R/T, which had both types of fans for performance gains, and for the afore mentioned elongation of parts life, i.e. water pump & fan belt. and to eliminate that damned harsh noise of initial start-up. I was tired of the roaring that was produced during start-up, and now it sounds so much smoother. I haven't had one problem yet, no over heating, I'm also running a 180 thermo, and a auxiliary tranny cooler too.

Matt whats this about R/ts and electric fans my 01 sport has both types, clutch and electric. I don't have a/c or many bells and whistles. So why would a 3.9L 5spd RC have both. not doubting or contradicting just confused.
I pulled my clutch fan off today, I have the electric fan still and a 180 t-stat so I'm not too worried about overheating.

if you have two fans, here is the deal

the clutch fan is a puller and is the workhorse of the two for cooling, the electric fan is the pusher and blows air into the radiator to assist the clutch fan

whether you can get by with just one is up to you to determine depending on your climate, the pusher is not as efficient as the puller but it could be enough for you, it certainly doesn't hurt to try and drive around in hot weather and watch your temp gauge carefully

The electric fan on my 04 4.7 is on the backside of the radiator and therefore, a puller. Don't know how it is on R/Ts though

another mark,

where did you come up with that statement?

My belt clutch/fan has been off a LONG time on my 4.7, and when you put your hand where it was, and the engine is on, you can feel the air blowing toward the engine, and it's on the back of the rad.
