Before deciding on any mods - even before looking at specific parts - you need to decide what your goals are. Life is full of trade offs. You can't maximize one area of performance without losing in another area. The Dodge engineers have done a pretty good job of building a vehicle that does almost everything well; but not everything excellent. That's where you come in. What do you want to be excellent? And are you willing to lose on the other end of the spectrum?

For example. You want your truck to be a real canyon carver. So you modify the suspension for that. But now you can't carry more than 500#, and you can't tow a trailer or travel off road.

So, if you decide what your goals are, many of us here can help you get there, and also help point out the trade offs.

Not all mods involve tradeoffs however - HO cams and a good PCM flash are 2 examples for a 4.7.

My exhaust rusted out and I replaced it with a Flowmaster cat-back muffler and dual pipes. It's a single muffler with 2 outlets. It sounds really good, looks cool, and helps performance a bit.

Flowmaster's web site actually has some sound bites so you can listen to their different mufflers and pick the sound you like best.

Since you don't work your truck (ie-tow), you have a lot of options. However, this isn't like days gone by, where a quick trip to the speed shop and week ends work will make a dramatic improvement in power and drivability. Factory parts are pretty good - comparativly. And you have to be carefull about smog laws, so do your research before starting.

Start with the standard hot rod tricks - more air in, more air out, better torque application, more spark, more fuel. Cold air intake. Full header exhaust, true duals if you can. Forget a cat back syste alone, no power gains there. Hypertech or similar. 3.92 or 4.10 gears.

After that, things get a little more complicated. Cam swaps, head work, new pistons, increased displacement, etc. Your best bang for the buck here is going to be a blower. $4500 or so and a week ends work gets you about 100hp.

There's no easy way to get more spark for a 4.7 - you'd have to have the PCM flashed. I'd expect as much or more power by swapping in the HO cams than thi intake/exhaust mods boB mentions.

Thank you guys for all your opinions! I've thought about what I'm actually trying to gain. I guess because I drive a minimum of 300 miles a week, more mph is key. I think for now, i'm going to look into air intake and exhaust. When I am going to work I can be more relaxed, it's just at night and on the weekends that I tend to get more aggressive when I drive.
