I have a 1993 Dakota CC with the 318 and auto tranny.

I have used Castrol GTX and Fram filters "almost" religiously. "Almost" meaning that a few times I had it changed at the qwik-e-lube due to lack of time/interest on my part. Don't recall exactly what they put in it.

Anyway - 110,000 miles on it now. Still runs strong. And considering the fact my wife took over it as the full time driver at about 45K (I got a company car), and most of it's miles are short, in traffic miles, with a woman behind the wheel, I'd say thats a pretty good record.

My new truck is a 2002 R/T. It's mine! The wife (soon to be ex) doesn't drive it. It's 14 months old now and just rolled 10K. I still have a company car so the Dak won't get too many miles.

I've had the oil changed in the R/T as opposed to doing it myself. The place I go gives me free oil changes and car wash since I have connections with the owner. :-) I had them put Castrol GTX the first time but had to pay the "bottle" charge. The last two times I let them put their pump brand in, which happens to be Pennzoil.

Since I've decided to start hopping it up with go-fast goodies and racing it, I'm planning on running synthetic oil from now on. Not sure which brand yet though.

I think as long as you change it and the filter regularly and don't "over stress" it - ie. racing, towing, overheating, etc.. Any modern day, name brand oil will do the job. Be it dino or synthetic.

Depends on what's better for you individually according to your application and intended use.
