i am going to be removing my third cat this week in hope of some performance gains. I will be leaving the stock muffler in place or will maybe replace it with a magnaflow of the same size because i like the sleeper sound. So far my mods are true flow intake, fastman 68, ho cams, ho manifold and removed clutch fan. Did anyone notice a gain when they deleted their third cat with similar mods? I have a 2003 standard cab 4x4 auto. It currently shifts at around 5400rpm's at wot.

If you have three cats there is one after each exhaust manifold and one after the Y-Pipe. If you only have one, it is after the Y-Pipe. Pretty simple. Not all have three cats. The 04`s I looked at(4.7s) only had the two after the manifolds,no third cat.(Massachusetts) My 03 only has one after the Y-Pipe.(also Massachusetts) I have the 4.7

Black2003,
I've done all the things you have and then some. Take it from me, cut off everything after the pre-cats and go true duals. The Y-pipe is very restrictive also; it's like only 1-3/4" in diameter. I had 2-1/4" pipe installed just after the pre-cats back to a Gibson dual in/dual out muffler with tailpipes back to the rear bumper. You'll notice a differnce!

Hope this helps ya!

FLdak...thats exactly what i wanted to do, keep the precats cause i need um for emissions but put on a slightly larger y-collecter, how much did it run you, do u know how they did it, (i.e. just welded a new pipe in place, did it line up with the precats pretty easily? stuff like that) Thanks in advance.

I almost WISH I had the pre cats so it would be EASY to go true duals. But I got just the single Cat after the y-pipe.

I got to get some headers for my 03 QC and make my own pipe and cats from there.
