Hello im 15 and am going to get a club cab dakota r/t. I was wondering what would be the right mods to do and stay under $1000. I was thinking k&n gen II intake, PPH headers, and a JET chip or somthing. Just looking for your thoughts.

15 and getting an R/T? Holy smoke! Anyway, you pretty much nailed the mods you named. They're all good. Start with a throttle body, intake and headers. $1000 should do it.

Do not get a jet chip. They are worthless. I had on on my R/T and it sucks. If you want computer mods get a custom flash from B&G chrysler. If you really want a jet chip I will sell you mine but I'd feel pretty guilty taking your money.

Man, should I get an R/T, even if I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4, with Gibson Shortys, a F/B 70mm TB, Mopar HO cams, K&N FIPK and Flowmaster?

As far as I am concerned, my on-going task to get a mopar pcm is far from easy. As I search the web, alot of places that sell one for the r/t say they will be able to enter your vin number and mileage for a small fee. When I call them, it turns out that they can't do this for you and that you need to take it to a local dodge dealership for it to work. As I read on this site, I hear quite a few people saying it will work even if you don't get the vin number and mileage put it but it will trip the check engine light. I am at a crossroads now.

5.9V8-

You could go with the above mentioned mods if you wanted and have decent gains. But if I started over with mine I would do this:

Exhaust- Get some used headers and try a 3" exhaust. Even if its stock it needs to breathe better than the lame stock exhaust. You will need a decent exhaust to compliment any mods you do anyway.

Gears- Get some 4.56s because despite what people say, they are great and highway rpms are bumped up but very driveable. Big gains with gears.

Mopar pcm(or flash)- This is a critical mod allowing your r/t to shift at higher rpms and works well with future mods.

Cold-air intake- The stock airbox is restricting a lot of air flow. This should actually be your first mod.

Theres probably $1500 in mods there but if you look around you can find deals. To be honest youre not going to see much gain for $1K. When I first got my r/t I got:
1 K&N cold air- $250
2 Jet 1- $225
3 JBA headers/y-pipe- $450
Total: $925 '99rc r/t 14.52@92mph. RSAs with 20 lbs. Jet chip does work but does little.

'99rc
K&N cold air
Fastman 52mm tb
Mopar pcm
M1 2bbl
Permacool e-fan
ASP crank pulley
Harland Sharp 1.7s
GS long tube headers
Spintech 2 1/2" side exit duals
Motive 4.56s
Transgo kit
Battery in bed
Kumho 711s
BFG comp t/a on 15"slt wheels

Got a little question on exhaust...
When i first get headers, would it be ok to run without the stock exhaust(straight out of the cat) for a month or two before i got some pipes?

Why not? As long as you make sure that they will fit onto stock pipes you can take all the time you want. But dont count on seeing big gains until you actually open up that entire exhaust.

well, i got a really great deal on a 03 ram hemi with a flowmaster, so i will not be getting a r/t. A R/C Hemi would beat a r/t anyway. Thanks for all your advice.
