Okay all you Dak owners with dubs- I was wanting to buy a set of the chrome 20 inch r/t wheels for my 99 r/t. My question is (obviously), how much will this slow me down?? Does anyone else have r/t 20's on their truck, if so how much did it hinder your performance, and do you regret the decision? Thanks in advance for any help, greatly appreciate it.

You should be worried about stopping your truck first before slowing worrying about the rims slowing your truck down. Braking will be hindered from rotational mass and runout. Yes it will slow you down from taking longer to make one revolution.

some one can correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought i read that for every 7 lbs lost would be like a gain of 1 horse power at the wheels. So i would probably assume that it is 1 HP lost for every 7 lbs gained. This is of course is only for rotational mass. Some people say they have gained at much as 3 tenths in the quarter mile just from lighter wheels

Yeah, I know I'll need stronger brakes, I'm working on that now. I just wanted to hear some info from people who already had 20's on their r/t (or other Dak), and how much it slowed them down. Thanks for the help though.

black2003- I believe it's closer to 10 pounds. Adding 10 pounds is like losing 1 horsepower, taking off 10 pounds is like gaining 1 horsepower.

Rolling on knockoff RT 20's with 275/45 GTII goodyears. I definately hook better on the street, though it feels a pinch slower, and you do feel a bit of lag in the brakes. Cuts the gearing down a bit, and throws down the speedo a touch. Worth every penny, love attention the wheels attract. Just need to put more coin into making it faster now.
