I am think of putting on either a set of Gibson Headers or a new throttle body, which is the better mod and which throttle body is best for my truck.

99 5.2 5speed, with homebrew intake, IAT mod and catback exhaust

I've got the Gibson Headers. They made a very noticable improvement in low end torque. The throttle body usually adds hp at the top of the curve. From what I've read you probably want notice it unless you real wind up the RPM's.

Going to have to go the other way on this one. I say get the TB first. Wait on the headers until your getting the increased airflow. Then you will need to scavange the excess with some headers. A new TB works in all power ranges. A vast improvement over a stock one let me tell ya. Good luck with the decision.

Anyone have any experience on Throttle bodies on EBAY like (SICK 50MMS THROTTLE BODY)?

I just wonder if the one pictured is anything like the one ones they ship.

The only thing I get cautious about on the headers is most people report 4 - 6 hours to install, does that sound about right.

Headers hands down. I have both the Gibson Headers and a Fastman TB. Check this link out for dyno data.

Silver,
Thanks for the link. That confirms what I already had guessed. Hence, the only modification I've made so far is the addition of headers. According to KennBell's web site the headers are worth 17hp on the 5.9L.

I can tell you from the seat of my paints that I got at least 10 HP. I do plan to do a dyno pull to confirm this. It is much easier to turn the tires over now.

Sammy, header swap out is like 1.5 hours unless you have to fight every bolt in your manifold to come out from rust or what not. You can do it yourself if you are patient. I find it easiest to jack the truck up, take off the front wheel, pull the wheel well housing out and then the collector bolts and manifold bolts are right in your face. I've also done it without jacking the vehicle, removing the wheel and the housing it just takes a little more fiddling with to do the collector.

THe headers will work best in conjunction with a good air intake. The throttle body can't be effective unless extra air gets to it, hence the air intake first.

deerridge,

This is the formula I've always used to determine CFM and it has always worked pretty good.....

CFM=(CID x Max RPM x VE) / 3456

CID= cubic inches

RPM= RPM

VE= Volumetric Efficiency

Therfore, my 5.9L would need the following CFM:
CFM= (360 x 5500 x .8)/3456 = 458 CFM

Now if we assume 100% VE:

CFM= (360 x 5500 x 1.0)/3456 = 573 CFM

My stock TB on my R/T is supposed to flow 580CFM.

This calculation would backup/confirm the numbers at Kennbell's website.

That 580cfm number is just what I read. Does anybody know the exact flow on the stock 5.9L TB? Hughes web page shows a stock 5.2/5.9 TB flowing 633cfm. Maybe that's without the airhorn stud plate in the way. Either way, 580 or 633 cfm is more than I need for right now.
