Subject: mopar performance pcm's??

Message:
Does anyone know whether or not I have to have my pcm flashed with my vin# when put in the mopar performance pcm? It's a 97 dak with a 5.2L.
Some dealers say if its a 97, then the answer is no. they say only after 98 that has to be done. Then I talked to another dealer that says anything OBDII has to be flashed. So has anyone ever installed the pcm into their 97 dak who could tell me if they had to flash it or not?

then how does my snap-on scanner know what my truck is just by turning on the key? You would think that the vin# is in the computer.Have you installed the pcm onto your truck without the vin encoded? And if so does your dash work properly. I installed the pcm and my dash does'nt operate.

Twillie ... I have the 97 MP PCM for my truck. No vin needed to be entered and the dash works properly. That vin bit was only incorporated on the 98 and up computers.

not quite: you can get it to run with the vin not flashed BUT if you ever go through an odometer inspection the memory chip in the odometer will be compared to the number that is flashed into the PCM when the vin is flashed. the PCM stores, as a countermeasure to odometer rollbacks, a copy of the current milage, that, should be updated when the PCM is installed. if they do not match, the BS you would have to go through will cost you a lot more then the cost of having it done. just an FYI.
