Hey guy's I'm looking for some opinions! I have a 03 Dacota quad and I was considering selling it for a Hemi Ram. I know this is a dakota site but, I haven't been completley satisfied and wonder if the overall design on the Ram would be a better choice. example being Daks rotor problems, suspension. Is there any information on the Ram that would help me decide? Someone recently told me that the transmission in the ram is too weak and engineers have controlled the pcm so it could not realize full throttle at low speed-which protecs a weak tranny? Last thing why is there 6 lugs on a Dak and 5 on a Ram? Thanks in advance for replies!

Yes the new ram is a better design than the 03 dakota. If you have a 4.7L with an automatic trans, you have the same trans as a hemi truck. It is NOT weak and they don't pull the throttle back to save it. The number of lugs on the dakota has something to do with clamping force for a smaller hub. Although I bet it is due to chrysler having a different supplier for hubs between rams and dakotas. By the way I am a master certified chrysler technician and work on these trucks everyday. I also own an 02 dakota with a 4.7L and an automatic because we see so few problems with them. If I could afford an new truck right now, it would be a ram with a hemi.

Forget the hemi and get the only other 5.9litre that matters, get a cummins Ram and really haul ass.

I have both. A 99 3.9 dak and a 04 2500 with the high output Cummins. I bought both new and I can say the Ram is ten times the truck the Dak is in terms of durability and quality. The dak has been rather problemsome but enjoyable overall. The Ram with the Cummins has been virtually problem free now for 11,000 miles I have put on it in the last 5 months. The stock hemi will beat stock Cummins in a drag but the incredible torque and sound of the Cummins will win you over everytime. I have not seen or heard of ONE person that was dissapointed of getting the Cummins over the Hemi., but not the other way around unfortunately.

I own a 03 Dakota and have had the dealer replace the leaking front shocks at 13kmi, 500 mile later left replacment is leaking again.(puddels of oil wherever i park. them suckers must hold a quart.) Getting them replaced tue.
I like the tough looking suspension on the 04 Rams. It will be next one for sure.

Well I owned a 01 Ram 4X4 5.9 and now own a 02
Dak 4X4 4.7. There was two reasons I got rid of
the 01 Ram after only 1600 (yes 16 hundred) miles.
The 5.9 had plenty of balls but I could not pass
a gas station and the main reason was, I could
not drive it into my two door garage unless I
pulled both rear view mirors in flush to the doors
first. Always had to get out of the truck to do
that to the right side.
I have owned other older full sized Rams and Vans
and never had that problem. They are making the
RAM wider, that's for sure. They need to add a
power type fold in option like GM offers.

I believe the Ram has a better design. The Hemi can tow more. Oh, and the Dakota has six lugs because somebody on the Chrysler team's a dumbass.

These trucks have much in common and are both (obviously) designed by the same company. I've had no problems with the suspension in my Dak; what specifically are you referring to ? A freind who is an alignment specialist tells me he sees more bad ball joints in the Rams than in the Daks.
