Actually, the Eclipse GT really isn't a sports car. I know they call it that, but all of the chasis/frame/floorpan/suspension/engine/and drive train interchanges with the Gallant. Even Mitsu admits it is a reskinned Gallant. In other words, you beat a Gallant. Big deal....

I was a big Eclipse fan. I owned a turbo AWD 5spd. When they went to the Gallant chassis I gave up on Mitsu. They are supposed to make a new Eclipse in 2006 and it is supposed to go back to a design simular to the 95-99 models.

the GT designation on a car means nothing it is the same at putting any two letters next to a name like Chevy AZ or Mustang bvd or what ever, means nothing not even that it is a "sports car" Heck dude, if I get a bicycle and paint "GT" on it would you think it runs fast too?

Its just the whole thing that 90% of people with the Gt think they have this fast car. You sit a 4 door Sebring next to a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT and Stop 100 people and ill bet you 99% of them people will say that the Eclipse will smoke it. Its just one of them things, Just like i was thinking it would smoke me. And really with the GT on the said is really Is a big deal cause if you take the Mitsubishi Eclipse LS and put it up to the GT the Gt will take the bag. Or say a rustang LX to a rustang GT the GT will take it. I know they call the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT a sports car and anyone that looks at it would say the same, Thats its style. Not saying it holds up to its name and looks but.lol Just funny seeing a sedan next to a fast LOOKING sports car. Just like if you where at the track and seen the two cars line up i bet 99% of peoples money would be on the Eclipse GT over the 4 door sedan

Not true on the rustang statement! The first several years of the GT and LX 5.0, the LX was faster because it didn't have the extra weight of the ground effects and spoilers.

But I do get your point, as misplaced as it may be!

Better do your homework!!!

What do you think Cops drive? An LX notchback 5.0! Some of the baddest Mustangs on the street are LX's because people who know performance, know that weight is your worst enemy!

Depending on which model you have you might have the same engine the Eclipse had.. I'm not sure about the Sebring, but the Stratus comes with either the 2.7L Dodge or the 3.0L Mitsu engine. The Stratus R/T has the 5spd and the 3.0.

What engine do you have? If you have the 2.7L then you confirmed what I suspected all along. I always thought the 2.7L Dodge was a better engine than the 3.0L Mitsu, but they put the 3.0 in the Stratus R/T with the 5spd instead of the 2.7L.

I've driven both cars with both engines and the only advantage I thought the 3.0 had was the 5spd.

We traded in our 1998 Chrysler with the 2.5 V6. One small a$$ engine! It FELT quick, but they aren't very fast at all.
Most of the Avengers/Sebrings ran the same 2.5 V6 and of course they are ALL auto's. Sucks.

My 4X4 Dakota is faster then the 2.5 V6 they put in those. By quite a bit now.

I'm not sure what the new ones come with for options. I think just the 2.7
A popular swap in those cars is to mod in a 3.0 Galant V6 and build it up a bit. Other than that there isn't jack sh*t for real performance parts for the popular 2.5 V6 other than home brew turbo's and the such.

I'm happy with my truck. Even though it is the new 4.7, it STILL has a lot more aftermarket performance available for it than the FWD Chrysler sedans.

Never claim that the sebring sedan was a race car. Not looking for any mods , I dont look at any v6 as a race car, would not waste the money on a v6 to make it a race car.

I have a 5.2 Reg Cab short box dakota and lined up next to a Ecllipse GTS and I beat him by about 2 car lengths but we only ran an 1/8 of a mile. Even though he got the jump on me (I didnt think he was going to go) I thought I would beat him by more than that

I have a 2001 Eclipse GT 5-speed with a CAI and have beaten many, repeat, many stock Mustang GT's. 215bhp, 210lbs. I'd eat that Sebring for lunch.

Also, I have a 2003 QC 4.7 Dak 4x4 (that's why I'm here browsing) that can barely get out of it's own way. My Eclipse against my Dak wouldn't be a race.

As someone said, their engines are basically the same. Chrysler uses a lot of Mitsubishi's smaller engines, because Diamler Chrysler ownes a good part of Mitsubishi. Some of the older Neon engines are the same as the Eclipse. I think that they were 4 cylinders, but still. Point being.... Even though they have different names, im sure you could go through both cars and find parts that are identical or pretty close to being interchangable. The Mitsubishi 3.0 is a weak engine. Until a few years ago, they used that 3.0 in about every car they had. Eclipse, Galant, Montero (yes an SUV), thay had different trannies and rearends, but the same engine. I agree that if you put GT on a car it makes you THINK it's faster but not always. That's how they get some to pay more for two letters (myself included). Now a Mustang GT against a Mustang coupe is different. The new Eclipse's the GT has the 3.0 and the RS has a 2.4. What's this mean? It's not a GT as someone pointed out. It's a GT only because they made the stock engine VERY WEEK. Would you buy a "Sports Car" with a 2.4 4 cylinder? Not even Ford is that bad. Sorry if i rambled on.

Matt

Eclipse GT beating a Mustang GT? Ha if it's a pre 1999 with a V6 maybe but not a current model year V8 LOL. The Eclipse is a 15,16 second car compare to a 13/14 second car. I call BS unless they couldn't drive or not racing.

No BS. Check out the forums at neweclipse.org. There are plenty of video and 1/4 mile times of 3G's beating Mustangs V8's. No such thing as a Mustang GT V6.

With some of the idiots driving those things, I believe it. My friend has a 1989 Civic Si hatch 5-speed and outran a 2000 5-speed Mustang GT at a stoplight, and he WAS TRYING! NO JOKE! Some people just can't drive.

Like I ALWAYS have to remind people. There is a SH*T load of RICERS/ wanna be street racers who have V6 Mustangs who put the fake duals on and yes, even the "GT" badging! It's REALLY obvious when they put on sh*t like "GT-R"! No such Mustang!

Also like someone said, Mustangs through out the years had WAY different HP ratings. Newer ones are better STOCK. But again the 5.0 has the MOST support out of any car on the road. So there are still plenty of modded 5.0's that can run 10's in street trim.

Hmm.. Don't remember any with that badging, but maybe there was. I don't know everything that's for sure.

But I was referring more along the lines of BIG GT-R badging you can buy at Autozone and sh*t. Along with all the other R-RACING stickers I see plastered on any econobox they seem to drive.

That badging discredits ANY car I see on the road.

They made "Cobra R"s for the '93 model year, but I don't remember any GT-Rs. If they made them they weren't sold publicly.
