I'm in the same boat. I have found a few things.

Jet chips at WWW.jetchips.com has a chip(s) and cold air intakes. WILL NOT AFFECT WARRENTY. Also JBA headers has (obviously) headers for the 3.9L V6. Same w/warrenty. I have a 01 Kota w/V6 and auto. K&N w/dynomax muffler.

Check out www.speedtweaks.net. Bernd has alot of suggestions. I have a 3.9L v6 and so far changed the cap and rotor to brass contacts, MSD 8.5 mm spark plug wires, Accel super coil w/ adapter harness, a Volant cold air intake and finally a Gibson stainless single side exhaust. I heard the best bang would be three things. 1. Throttle Body, 2. exhaust (Gibson, Flowmaster, Borla, Dynomax etc) 3. Chip. I'll get a factory v8 TB when save up the money. I don't think I'll install a Jet chip because it requires Premium fuel. My ultimate goal was MPG first and then tire ripping power. I hope that helps.

I have a 2000 3.9L CC with an automatic. I have added an Airaid, 3923 Autolite plugs, Dynomax, and a 180 Tstat. To be honest I felt the biggest difference with the 180 Tstat. I do have a TB on the way and will let you know what that does. As long as the money holds out it can only get better!

I would go with the exhaust next, the stock muffler is very restrictive, since you have a cold air intake, your won't get all the benefits of it till you can get the exhaust out faster. Speedtweaks.com has some excellent setups for a V6 since Bernd himself has a very running V6.

I also have a V-6. Mine is bone stock exept for exhaust. I have and intake in the mail, from Airaid . I am planning on buying a 180 Tstat very soon. Let me know what you guys do and what works. Also with the 180 Tstat do I have to change anything else with it?

Marc,

I just installed a Gibson stainless single side exhaust. The tone at idle was louder than stock (probably because I'm not used to it). Sounds deep and throaty. There is a slight humm at cruising speeds of 55-70 mph. Not annoying. I heard this was one of the quietest of the group. I wrote on another thread my installation woes or better techniques. (does and don'ts)

TBs: I haven't gotten a factory V8 TB yet. I don't think the years matter all that much, but try to get as close as possible to your year '99. I heard some things you should be aware of. The throttle on a V6 TB is a ball stud vs a disc stud (V8 TB). Someone wrote back to me and said that the same year models have the same throttle cable studs. I guess I have to found out for myself. I already purchased a V8 Throttle cable from www.speedtweaks.net for such an event. After installation check for blade interference with the intake manifold at WOT. Speedtweaks does sell the V6 to V8 TB conversion (TB & throttle cable). I found a Webstie. I think it was www.dodge-parts.net that would sell a v8 TB for about $165 delivered. Have fun.

Harvey,

Please let the group and me know how this V8 TB on a 3.9L work out. I am thinking of doing the same mod.

1997-2001 V8 Throttle Bodies will match up to the respective year V6. You will need to either change the throttle cable or modify the linkage to work. The V6's do use a ball-stud configuration and the V8's use a disc. All of the other connections are identical.

$165 for a throttle body is a good price. Don't forget to add the cost of the gasket, throttle cable, and shipping.

I've got a 96 x-cab v6, and i use a V8 TB, i think that the thing that made the most difference would be the TB, or Underdrive pulley and elec fan, go to www.angelfire.com/la3/finedak
to see my truck and see all my mods,
