I've heard in racing teams running chevy engine run an alternate firing order than the factory that produces more power with the same if not better. I'm running a 98 kota 4x4 with the 318 and 5 speed and was wondering if anyone had tried or heard about doing that to this engine. thanx

No way to do that unless you have a custom made crank and camshaft!

I didn't even know anyone did that though. I couldn't see any more power just by doing so. It would still be the same displacement and power no matter what order you fire in. Unless there's some strange balancing reason for it.

Firing order is mostly determined by the cam shaft. Changing the firing order can produce more power at higher rpm's by making the engine a little smoother. But it's a small gain and only at higher rpm's. If you really want to, call Comp Cams and have them grind you a custom shaft. But I wouldn't think it would be worth it unless you're racing.
