Hey guys, I'm actually posting this for my brother. He owns an 98 Dakota Sport with a 3.9/Auto. He had a couple questions. First off, is there any easy way to make some more power? Like exhaust, computer chip, etc? He doesn't want to go all out, just enough power to be able to "keep up with the stupid rice rockets". Second, he wants to lower it a bit, 1 to 2 inches. What options are there for this? Off the top of my head I wondered if R/T suspension bits would work since they are lower from the factory. Direct swap for springs and stuff or no? Finally, are R/T rims a direct swap or no?

Thanks!

Suspension: Look into the hotchkis TVS 2/3 or the Ground force 2/3. Both replace the rear leafs. The hotchkis with tuned bilsteins are the best shocks. There are less expensive ones out there. I think Ground force makes a 2/2 as well. An R/T suspension won't lower your V6 because the springs were designed with the weight of the 5.9L in mind. Get lakewood traction bars or an Roadmaster Active Suspension. The RAS will lift the rear by about 1/2 an inch but controls the rear very well.

Gears: Look into different gears (4.10's or 3.92's). Also look into a LSD (limited slip) for the rear. And a transgo shift kit wouldn't hurt.

I'd stay away from the R/T wheels. They are pretty heavy and you'll be wanting lighter wheels rather than heavy ones so your 3.9L doesn't have to work as hard. Look into some lightweight billet wheels (go to centerline's wheels deals section). Don't go to large on the diameter either. Stick with 18" or less.

As for the engine you've got cams, intake, throttle bodies, headers, ignitions, free-flow cats, cat-backs, mufflers, computer upgrades, etc. to chose from. Get in touch with Marty at krcperformance.com and he'll give you some good advice as where to start.
