I am in the process of installing a Keene Bell Supercharge as most know. I am at the stage, after a Matt Snow water injection, to decide if I want, or need headers I plan on a MAX of 7 psi boost with the add waer insection the added Hp and stress on a stock engine I feel that no Headers are needed. I have the stock cast manf`s. with a Y pipe to a over size Cat converter a 2-3/4 id., then to a 5" core S/S muffle then to 2- 2/1/2 " outlet the cost of the headers in my mind out ways the bennift of just looking bad.. and I don`t realy need the extra underhood heat I don`t want to wrap them either been there done that, pain in the butt.. what you guys think. any back pressure will cert. be over come by the blower and the cam overlap

hotrod mag did a test a few years back on a 4.7 with ant without headers, they saw a less then 4 hp gain and 5 lb torque with headers over stock, but ONLY on the 4.7 so ya gotta ask your self if the very modest gain is worth the cost. If it is, go for it.

man take it from me, headers arent worth your time or your money, and they're pretty expensive for something that leaks and will never ever seal just right

By the same token, there are already headers on the market for the new Hemi that offer 30hp improvement. Headers work, but to what degree depends on what you're dealing with.

Is it true all aftermarket headers end up cracking the seals or leak, I have heard this often?

Haven't had a leaking problem with my headers. I tighten the bolts every few months though.

I developed some bad cracks over the years on the pipes and by the collector on my JBAs.

I've had my JBA's on for a few months now. I would say that I honestly do feel it puller much harder in the upper RPM's,,but that's about it. They don't look to pretty now, but aren't leaking - I also tighten/check mine every month or so.

I don't think I did anything special, but didn't have any loose header bolts, and the only time I cracked a header was when I kinda got slightly airborne in the ole Charger....crunched a header tube when she bottomed out. If you get headers, get the heavy gauge models.

They might make for a good gain with you having the blower on

I have not dynoed mine yet to see if it really made any difference, but my seat of pants tells me that I have increased torque all the way across the board. It's even easier to spin the tires now (like I actually needed that). It pulls much better over 4K than it did before.

I will do a dyno pull soon to confirm this. I'm going to dyno after each mod to document the gains.

Also, I just averaged 14.4mpg with all city driving this week. That is the best average I've had in the 10K I've owned this truck. It may or may not be due to the addition of the headers 3 weeks ago, but it sure seams that way.

Try a set of 92 manifolds if you can find em. late 93 and up manifods exit at 1 7/8" 92 & early 93 exit at 2.25" and flow much better. Add a little porting and ceramic coat inside and out and it will flow all day long with a tube haeder without the hassle. Best of all if yiu can find them they score for 50-100 bucks ata wreckers.

If you score a set of '92's, don't forget the matching crossover pipe, which is the larger diameter like the exhausts.
No, I wasn't running from Roscoe....in fact, I was mighty glad there weren't any cops around. It was Christmas day, of all things, and I'd gotten up in a bad mood. Humbug! Anyway, turned on the TV,what's on...Dukes of Hazzard. Anyway, I was on the way to the family get-together and this kid in a red mid-70's Vette pulled alongside. Looked like he had his best friend riding shotgun and a galpal stuffed in back. There was just enough traffic that he could harrass me, but not enough room to haul ass and try getting away. I really just wanted to be left alone. ANyway, he musta gotten the car for Christmas, and he was being a jerk. I knew we were coming up on Hwy90, and it was a bumpy ride when crossing it. There was no way that Vette would go across as fast as the Charger ('69, and arrest me RED). So, as it opened up, I eased up the speed, he was right beside me. At the last 100ft he realized where we were and nailed the brakes. I just grinned and sailed on, gingerly tapped the brakes to bleed off some speed. Then, Hwy 90 happened. The first dip was not too bad, and as she pitched up I got light in the seat, but no biggie. Wooo, that was fun. But, as I was settling in the seat, she was on the way up again, with me about 1/2 a second behind. That's when it got hairy. The second rise was sharper, and as my right ear (I was seeing things from a whole new perspective) was becoming intimately aware of the headliner, I realized the sensation I was feeling pulling me down was the car, which had managed to lift all four wheels off the road. It was a combination of the way the lanes were rutted down, and my springing upwards. Nothing huge, but she was airborne. I landed in a cloud of dust, and the exhaust sounded kinda funny, as the passenger side tubes were kinda whacked. Man, that thing was a tank. Alignment checked out okay afterwards. Ahhhh, the days of youthful abandon. Never saw the Vette again. I have always wondered about them. Once I got to a phone, I called my best friend. When I mentioned that I knew I shouldn't have had the "Dukes" on the TV, I heard the phone hit the floor and he was laughing.....he knew I had a whopper of a story to tell.

oR INSTEAD OF THE CROSSOVER YOU COULD DO LIKE I DID, CUSTOM 21/4 DOWNPIPES TO A FLOWMASTER 2.25 TO 3" MERGE COLLECTOR THEN INTO A 3" CAT
