is there really much of a power difference between making your own plastic air intake and metal?

I have heard tales that metal CAI's tend to actually tend to warm the air as metal transfers engine heat better than plastic. Although metal surely looks better than plastic, I can't imagine there being any real difference in power even if the metal tube tends to heat up a little more the air would be moving too fast for there to be any real difference.

go with plastic/pvc wrapped in foil tape to deflect the heat.

If you go with metal you have the advantage of strapping those gell filled ice packs aroung the tube to cool the air a little.
