im in the market for a newer vehicle, my best friend is tryin to talk me into the dakota r/t see he has one and wants some body to cruse with.
my problem is that ive neve been a dodge guy and havent ever kept track of the r/t. I am into speed and performance and have always driven fast cars so my question is what r/t should i get is there a year that is faster than others or one that takes up grades better that has more performance potental. it will be a daily driver but must be a strong performer to i would like to see times in the 13's or better . what do you think?

Times in the 13s are gonna cost you at least a supercharger. Is
it still worth it to you? On average $3000 for a kit. You could
always go nitrous but I hate filling up those bottles and keeping
it warm. I'd make sure to get a standard cab to keep the weight
down too.

The prob with the '01s and up is that there is no Mopar Performance computer avail. (and won't be)

kowalski,
i assume i would have to send my pcm off, what kind of price tag & down time are we talkin about? Also can you give me some web sites for companies that handle performance parts for the dakota

The wrx's are pretty sweet but i want a quick truck, i love the feel i get after out running a camaro or mustang in some thing not considered to be fast! I drive an 85' regal with a 400 sbc in it. the thing runs 12.9s - 13. flats. you wont belive how stupid it makes theses guys feel when the get beat by a "Granny Car"

69_yenco - you'd have to check with B&G for that info, I went with a different flash for my 4.7. Picked up a boneyard PCM for $80 to run while mine was being flashed and glad I did; UPS screwed up and sent my flashed PCM to Alaska instead of back to MA. KRC performance is one popular site, I'm sure some of the 5.9 guys could help you out more with web sites.

Dakota R/T
0-60 time of 7.08 sec

98' Jeep Grand 5.9 255hp/350lb/ft
0-60 time of 6.80 sec

0-60 times vary but the Jeep is a fast SUV for the money.

I'll be getting an R/T to run with my fathers Jeep

The B&G PCM" Mopar Performance PCM 96-2000. This controller adds spark, fuel, moves the rev limiter to 6000 rpm, removes the speed limiter, has a higher initial spark curve, moves the shift points from 4800 to 5200 and locks out the AC compressor under WOT. We can write the VIN # for your truck before shipping also ($30). $349

The biggest improvement you get from a B&G PCM flash is that it removes the lame-ass torque management (BS factory mandated ignition retard) That being said, its not that you get a huge improvement over the rated 250HP/345lbs ft...it's that you actually GET those numbers (minus drivetrain loses)
