First things first. Lost my free web/email account. All the pics are gone. :(

And the main reason for the post:
If, for some reason, you must 'isolate' the front diff and still drive, do not, I repeat, DO NOT simply remove the half-shafts from the center section out. Ask me how I found this out. Ok, Ill tell ya. I grenaded my front chunk a while back. Truck has been parked since then. Gotta go to the coast this weekend. Figgered easy fix, simply unbolt the half-shafts from the center section and remove them completely. Wrong answer. The wheel side of the stub axle(?) serves double duty. 1 as an drive axle; 2 as a bearing race holder thingie. Cant think of a better term for it. Anywho, I yanked mine (simple 30 min job) and tooled around the shop for a bit to test things out. Glad I did. The passenger side wheel spindle came completely out of the knuckle. I wound up on top of the wheel/tire. So dont try this at home folks. Im just glad it happened at the shop at .5 mph and not on the hwy at 60mph.

Looks like the 2 1/2 tons are going in sooner than expected.

Ill keep yall posted.

SuperBee, buzz off.

Im trying to spread the word and help others not fall in the crap I have. When I got into all this, the TC5.5 lift plus 3in body lift what the least expensive and quickest route for me to go, so I went. Do you know of anyone elso who run that combo with 36in tires? On a daily driver? That 'wheels like there is no tomorrow? The guys I ride with have been continually inpressed with my little Dak. Yes I 'wheel Hard. And I do mean hard. Hard enought that there is usually some kind of breakage to someone due to difficulty. Rarely has it been me. But when I do break something, I let everybody know, so that they can possibaly avoid it in their future.

You say go solid axle, well Guess what, I am. Two and one-half ton axles to be exact. Now, got any advice on that? If so Id like to hear it as I know of NO other Dakota on 2-1/2 tons. And yes, when I get it done, there will be a full report made incase someone else decides to follow suit.

Enough

Hero,
I don't think he meant negative stuff by it. He is just pointing out that because dodge used the dana 35 setup on the front of these trucks their is a limit to how much we can wheel them. I have pics of your truck on my site, its awesome. I hope to one day be riding on some 35's and I hope my front IFS axle doesn't grenade. If you can pull off that TC lift with it intact drop me a line.
BTW- do you know what front lockers are available for the front of these trucks?

I checked on the Eaton one, its pretty sweet but they don't have our Dana 35 application. That one would be my choice because the mechanism is so simple and bullit proof. Its new and they said "more applications coming soon" I guess I'll wait and see. Let me know if you find out something knobby!

4wDak,

Your prolly right, but I just cant stand (to me) usless posts. My original post had nothing to do with solid axles other than my last quip about going to them soonere than expected. It was a warning and a heads up to the rest of yall out there. But any who, I guess I did overreact a bit. My appologies.

About the front locker. Look into OX locker. It is a mechanical locker driven by Operator via cable/lever.

I know they have a dana 30, maybe a 35.

And Ill definatly give drop you a line on the lift depending on what condition it comes off in.

Gotta run, boss calling! Bah.

Yeah, ive seen the OX locker but its only for jeep applications right now. It looks sweet too.
I'd really like one I could turn off for on the street to save on front end wear.
