Free does not mean good. Free means willing to take the time to perfect it with us and make it good. Knobbyman has been extremely patient and helpful in this process. We are trying our hardest to produce a product for you as fast as possilble. No other manufacturer has been willing to discuss approaching this and when they do will take 18+ months to have a kit on a truck.

I look forward to hearing from a willing Dakota driver in Phoenix that will take the time and keep up good communication with us on perfecting this kit.

Thanks

hey knobbyman if what you say is true about the alignment being fine but the steering wheel wouldn't have been straight. Then why would my alignment be f$$ked up. Just before they did the lift my truck was in for its services. The alignment was perfect. I would let go of the wheel and the truck would go straight. Now if I let go of the wheel the truck go to the right big time. I was going out to Arizona last monday to get it fixed along with the other noises i have been hearing, but my brakes gave out on me when I was going 70mph. The shop told me that the tires were rubbing on the brake lines. They said that there are not any after market company's that make brake lines for our dakotas. they recommended that i have custom brake line made. So no the alignment has not been resolved at least on my truck the test truck. They guy that designed the lift and did all the work on my truck Quit working at Chassis tech. He is only there the rest of this week and two days next week. I have to work the rest of this week so I can't go out there. But he is opening his own shop here in California and is going to be in LA three days out of the week so we are supposed to meet up and fix my truck.

Yea I read Dpkerns post earlier.. I don't know what the deal is with his install but I'll let you know how mine goes I should be having to deal w/ the alignment tomorrow morning.

Ian has been very helpful in working with me and this lift. The one part that I got (out of all of them) that isn't working correctly is not a big problem it will take me all of like 3 minutes witha cutting wheel to fix and I have all the confidence that Ian will ship me the new part once we figure out the correct demensions.

The only problem with this lift is going to be resolved no problem.

Only suggestion I have is a new uper Control Arm. I will post again tonight once I start the install again.. I'm rushing home right now to work on my truck.

Hey, Knobbyman and ian, I have a 99 4x4 exteded cab dakota with the 5.2. I would love to have some info on that 4 1/2 lift. I plan on ordering it sometime around april or may. It would be a big help to have some info on it like what to watch for and stuff cause, I'm 18 and will still be in school and me and my buddies will be doing it ourselves, I have a extra truck to drive but i would rather it not be torn apart for to long. I think we can do it fine we have some experience, we just put a 6 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift on ford supercrew, and have done several body lifts, but would rather just be able to breeze through it the best we can so if you have any information or helpful hints for me it would be greatly appreciated!!
THANKS!!!

Heh... Well mine is almost finshed. We spend more time trying to get the old stuff off then anything. Dodge rivited everything together and THEN LOCKTIGHTED IT!? Anyway I just have a few more things to do mostly tighten everything up. But I will say this. The brackets that were sent to me were not welded or manufactured well. I have 2 identical pieces that are about 1/4" off. (the hangers for the rear leafs) I have a picture of it but I didn't get a chance to post it. I'll have it up tomorrow. There is also one piece in my steering that needs to be welded on because the bolt that Truckin-Suspension says is there.... isn't. I'll call again with pictures and hopefully it was just a misunderstanding on my part. But there is definatelly some work that needs to be done on this lift. And I'm hopeing that Ian will send me the corrected pieces once he gets them made.... We'll see.

BTW the guy @ Chassis Tech that made the lift I think is still there either him or someone that was helping him with this lift. I don't know the name of the guy that made it.

I also know why Rancho won't make a lift. You can't drop this truck 3" because of the steering linkage. I'll take a picture if I can get a camera at the correct angle.

I have a comment ......the newer chevy's and ford's 4x4 and 4x2 share the same lift , at least from rancho and rcd , they use a cradle , the 4x2 needs the brackets hooked up at the bottom for the torsion bars off of the cradle . they use a thing called a knuckle ????? like a spindle , but with a long arm going up to hook on to the upper control arm , causing a arm not to be tensioned up so much ....... now I don't know the differences between the 4x4 and 4x2 on our trucks , you 4x4 guys have a spring , or just a torsion bar ?????, i looked at my buddies quad prerunner toyota , it has the knuckles , from factory , the spindle behind the wheel , has an arm that goes up real high and attaches to the a arm , why can't somebody design that , why does't dodge do it from factory ????????If our suspension is not so diff from 4 by to 2wd you have to make one lift for both , like rancho and rcd , fabtech , different , does upper arms and lower arms , on the fords and chevys , more ground clearance , but the lift with the cradle for the 2wd look good ................oh and the toyota , has rack and pinion like us , instead of running in front of the suspension like us , it runs behind the cross memeber , but its rack and pinion , they designed it to be tall ...

dont agree hawkeye , ask somebody at a shop , rancho and rcd never made a kit for a 2wd until this year for ford and chevy , everybody used to use fabtech. It's the same cradle for both , on the 4by they use spindles , but on the 2wd they use knuckle or component box ...........on the 2 wd you bolt brackets for the torsion bars of the cradle .toyotas suspension , very similar to ours , they lifted it from factory .........

Just going by the kits that I saw when I worked at 4 Wheel Parts, that and except for a 97 Ram 4x4, I all I have ever owned is Ford 4x4's including a 98 and 99. Viper had a 2wd 97. We compared them quite often. Might be a couple of parts interchangable, but over all, very different.

I can tell you this, I had a 97 2wd Ford F-150 and I wanted to put a lift on it.I had my choice from either Rancho or Fab Tech this was about two years ago so I can tell you that Rancho has made one for sometime now.I decided to get rid of the truck and buy my Dakota but up until then I was going to put a Rancho lift on it.Hawk has it dead on the 2wd was much diffrent that the 4wd,we had them side by side, they werent even close, for one thing the 2wd didnt even use torsion bars, they use coil springs.

Ian,
Since your from truckin suspension, make us some 3in lift spindles. Not just talking about the 97-99 or the 200-2002s. Like all other stuff is for. I am talking like for the 2wd 87-91s. There is nothing out there for us. Yeah your 3in lift system. Which dont get me wrong is nice, but with a 3in body lift, we can only run 31s. Come on, my mustang has tires that big. If we had a manufacture making a 3in spindle, we could run 33s with the rest of the trucks. PLEASE MAN, I AM BEGGING YOU. get us Gen Is some spindles!!! I would be your test truck. No quarells. Thanks for your time.

you're right hawk and viper they are different , but what I ment to say is about the concept of the sub frame , fabtech doesn't use one , but rancho , rcd does , both 2wd and 4x4 lift kits use a subframe , you dont have to replace your stock a arms on them , the knuckle goes high enough to bolt on to it . I guess the concept is coppied out of the 4 by lift , fabtech changes a arms , springs , lower control arms ( more travel ) , why can't somebody design a subframe lift with knuckles is my question ????? for you guys and then for us 2 wd guys ..........
