I just talked to Rancho they tell me if they could get more interest on a lift for our trucks they would unshelve the project,

I urge everyone one the board to call a few times a week...It's a toll free number!!!!

Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. Unfortunately, at this
time, Rancho does not have a suspension lift for your vehicle. However, we
are in the process of the research and development of this lift. We have
not yet determined a release date on this suspension system. We will add
your name to our mailing list and e-mail you when it is released. For
further comments or concerns, feel free to contact Rancho Technical Service
(800)574-6257.

That response from Rancho is so typical no matter what you ask!

Question: "Are your socks blue?"

Answer: "Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. Unfortunately, at this
time ..."

If you're persistent and call back or reply to emails, you will begin to develop a dialog with one of Rancho's "Extreme Team". Of course the answer is not always what you want to hear. After a conversation I had not too long ago, they appoligized for not meeting the original release date of fall 2001. It was pushed to spring, and now they say summer 2002, siting "issues" the engineers are working out (hmm, could it be alignment problems??). Of course take that for what it's worth. Summer 2002 will probably push out to Fall, then Winter, then...

It doesn't hurt to keep contacting them.

Keep swingin'

There can't be that many problems with alignment. You start with a aligned truck. With IFS you have to use drop down brackets (please have proof if you try and argue this it's been tried before I'll stand down if I'm proven wrong). With Drop down brackets the only way the alignment could get messed up is if you don't drill the new holes in the same spots as the old ones (unless I'm mistaken) but that's the word from about 4 install shops in the Dallas area. The reason Truckin-Suspension has had to take so long fixing the alignment problem is because dpkerns has been AWALL.

God how I wish I got that lift :-p

Ahh, but what about this....

Longer-stronger upper and lower control arms (check out Downey stuff for toyotas) mega travel ball joints, longer-stouter front axels, manual locking hubs, and much stronger torsion bars that are able to be fully cranked? The manual locking hubs will allow you to still drive it on the road... I have been searching and searching for any of the above mentioned components for my 2k 4.7 CC but to no avail.

I see a problem with these stock control arms and the way that the ball joints are mounted on them (looks week but I have had no problems as of yet). I would love to see someone come out with stouter torsion bars and control arms. For our Dak's!

Hey knobby I agree with you on the drop down brackets, I think where the problem is the upper control arms are so short that it keeps the tops of the wheels pulled in, negative or positive camber or something. The suspension setup on our trucks is fairly unimpressive to me. Also the r&p steering is really screwing us too because all the arms have to be more in align with eachother than with the ole recirc ball. I'm still trying to figure out why they went with the rack anyways. It works better on cars than trucks in my opinion. I worry about how well it will last with some serious meats under it.

FYI everyone,

I did call Rancho today. The guy sounded pissed. I asked "Hey I was inquiring about the lift for the Dodge Dakotas and an anticipated release date" He was silent, I said hello he says "no there is no date" and that was it. He hung up. So I am not so sure that calling them is going to help us.

Has anyone heard what they are working on? I am trying to decide if I should wait for Rancho or go with the truckin suspentions lift. What are you all gonna do? I guess that we are all kinda waiting to see how Knobbys lift goes.

Just kidding.

I'm sure they're on to us and the calls. If they wait too long, truckinsuspension may be well established and will have flooded the market. Then when Rancho introduces it they'll have no customers. Or worse they'll wait so long that Dodge changes the Dakota and they'll have to start from scratch.
Doesn't bother me mine has the old style steering so I can get a Rancho, Tuff Country , or truckinsuspension.

Yeah I know your jealous. But the crazy part is you'll get a lift before me and I got a 3 year head start on you.
Now where's my credit card....oh Rancho.....

Actually I envy your truck because its a quadcab, i'm tired of hearing people b!tching in the back seat about being cramped up. When they start complaining I just tap on that power seat button to the back some and say "what about now?" Then I move the seat back up and remind them they should feel privaledged to ride in my Dakota and they need to shut the f*ck up :-)

If you take all of the steering parts from a recirulateing ball and joint set up and all the parts from a rack and pinion set up the weight difference between the two is the primary reason! The more weight you have to hall around the worse gas milage is. The second reason is that customers are used to front drive cars with rack and pinion. If you want new customers you have to make it easy for them to transistion to a new truck or SUV with most of these new customers being female it makes alot of sense!! I prefer ball and joint or rack and pinion in a truck any day of the week and twice on sunday!!!!!!!!!

Hey Knobbyman , about the alignment problems associated with our Dakotas and lifting them,it doesn`t have as much to do with drilling the holes in the right place as is does with the factory design upper a arms. On my 99 with the 5.5 TC lift as soon as I put on larger ,wider tires with the added stress of the lift the upper a arm align. bolts just would not hold. I tried everything to stop them from shifting, but ,whenever I had to get, even a little, hard on the brakes they would move!I even had it aligned , took it to work and WELDED the align. bolts (just tacket it , didn`t go crazy , but still) to the upper a arms...lasted about 2 days. I eventually found a few different sized bolts (yes I know it sounds hokey but I was desperate)and put them on each side of the orig. bolts , that way the arms could not move (side to side) and thus solved my align. issue. I don`t know if the lift you got has found a way around this problem , I hope so though. have fun in your lifted QC...I realllly do miss driving around in a big-ol-truck you won`t believe the looks your going to get!

Jason at Rancho customer service just told me the same thing. I said I was told Fall 2001 and he sias "yea, probably" and then I said "but this is Fall 2002 now and still nothing?" and his reply was "yea, hopefully by the end of the year".

Do I gotta go buy a Chevy just to be able to get parts?

Rack and pinion steering takes less components , meaning cheaper to build. add this over a couple hundred thousand units a year and the bean counters win again! also in normal driving ... rack and pinion is more responsive to road feel

Still no excuse for the wait. Wouldn't trade my truck for any other model but I had plans to lift before I bought it. Had I known this before I would have bought a used truck and not an 01 in 2000. In my small town I know of about 10 people waiting for a suspension lift for this truck, cash in hand and ready. I see all these new lifts coming out for 02 and 03 new models. Guess what, there are none of these trucks lifted in my area. No one I know that owns these other new trucks plans on lifting them, just the Dak owners. It makes me sick that they make a lift for the Explorer Sport Crap and don't make one for my truck. I wonder who the morons are that say there is no market for this lift. Just venting, my .02 cents.
