Once in a while when I get on it and put the pedal to the floor the truck will downshift/slip down a gear. And will basically red line until I let off the gas. As soon as I press the pedal back down its ok. I have a 97 4x4 automatic with the 5.2. I use to have an identical truck except the color which I totaled, that did the same thing till I changed the filter and fluid. I did the same on this one and it keep doing it. Not as often though. Does anyone have any ideas or info?

When you floor it it's suppose to down shift that's the way it is w/ most automatic tranys. Unless your rpms would be to high for it to downshift. Look in the owners manual it says in there.

Welks,
Your right, it shouldn't stick in gear. It should, at worst case, bounce off the rev limiter once and then shift. If it is not doing it very often, I wouldn't worry too much. I wonder if that is some sort of band adjustment?

No, no, no. I know what it should do and it will downshift too low like down to first when I'm going 50 or better. It will redline and the rev limiter will kick in till I let off of the gas. Then once I press the pedal back down it will be ok. We're talking rpm's over 5 grand close to 6. I had a friend who is studying to be a mechanic say that it is some sort of solenoid in the transmission. He was in the truck when it did it last.
