Hello Everyone,
Great News, Sorta!!!
Tuff Country has a suspension lift for 2000 and up
4 x 4 Dakotas. One problem, they will not release until Dodge fixes the rotor problem (warping). They have put the lift on one Dakota and the brakes had a warping problem and the local Dealer knew that the brakes had a warping problem and fixed the brakes. Tuff Country decided that until
Dodge replace the rotors with better ones, they would not release the lift. My recommendation is to contact your local dealer to address the braking problem and the more pressure the sooner the lift can be released.

What about if you have put on aftermarket rotors on your truck? Kinda sucks for the ones that have have to wait for Dodge to fix the problem. That'll take forever!

Where did you get this information Eric?? After all the issues with rack and pinion, leave it up those pesky rotors to keeping my suspension at stock height. It's a glimmer of hope I guess. Is T.C. worried they will be held liable for brakes that go bad after their lift is installed? Or is the combination of a suspension mod and a known problem too much of a safety risk?

I contacted tuff country direct and talked with research and development manager. He stated that they would release lift as soon as dodge fixed the rotor problem, I also asked about releasing tuff country of liability if I replaced the rotors. He said that was not good enough. Sorry, I thought of that also. Just start pressuring the local dodge dealers and service techs.

I'm just going to play the devil's advocate role for a while here.

This sounds like a line of bull sh!t to me. I'm not saying the person starting this thread is spreading it, because I don't doubt that Tuff Country told him this. BUT, ... I really think Tuff Country is using this "brake rotor" thing as a big excuse. At least it sure sounds lame to me, that they have a lift ready and wont release it until Dodge fixes the brake rotors. Yah, right!

Doc.

I talked to Tuff Country about 7 months ago and kinda heard the same thing. They don't want people putting bigger tires on becuase their truck is lifted with one of their kits if Dodge's brakes can't stop the bigger wheel from turning.

It takes more grabbing power to stop a bigger wheel, and if these made-in-mexico (read that somewhere) brakes are warping already, there's no way they'll stand up to stopping bigger wheels.

I think the bottom line is it is a line of bull. They just can't make one.

Just to let everyone know.. I talked to tuffcountry.. they do NOT! have a lift out for the 2000+ Dakotas only up to 1999. The reason "Jeff" said that they aren't going to ever have one is because of the rack & pinion stearing & the weakend brake system.

It's to bad someone had to get everyones hopes up. Looks like Rancho still has a chance to get some $$ from producing a lift.

Funny, I also got the same answer as MikeC and Knobby a while back -- that's why I was SO surprised when I first read this post. Of course I wanted to believe a lift was coming!!

T.C. explained that a lift for the 2000+ Daks was NEVER coming out on account of the R&P. Surprised they were so blunt and just didn't lead me on by saying "it will probably be out sometime" (where have I heard this before?). I'm sure it could be engineered with some effort, but why invest the money when Fords, Chevys, and Toyotas are cheap and easy to produce -- and the demand is high for those lifts.

Well my '00 Dodge Dakota 4x4 will be lifted within a year (cuz that is when the warranty is up). A 2" body lift goes on after Christmas this year, and then when the warranty expires I can choose from whatever is available. If Rancho has a lift I'll buy it, otherwise my truck gets a front Dana 44 with locking hubs, and an early Bronco coil spring suspension.

Never have been that impressed with anything Tuff Country builds anyway...

I think applying some common sense to this post would have kept everyone from getting their hopes up. A suspension lift maker is not going to be concerned about bad rotors on a vehicle. Even though our rotors suck, they are lightyears ahead of some of the brakes on other trucks that lifts are made for. There is no connection here. This is like saying a camshaft maker will not make a cam for an engine because the stock intake sucks.

And on a side note... anyone who thinks Dodge is going to recall our vehicles because of the front brake rotors warping is in dreamland. Sometimes reality sux... but the sooner you enter it, the better off you are.

I had to replace the rotors on my 2000 4X4 about 15,000 miles after I bought it. I had blamed my wife for braking too hard and causing the warpage. Based on that thinking, I didn't take it to the dealer for the fix. Instead, I bought new rotors ($65 each) from Murray's and did the work myself. I havn't had a problem since, now at 60,000 miles, even with 33's on it.

WARNING - Don't go to this guy's business. Eric Borcik is a horrible businessman. I took my Luminox watch to get the crystal replaced and I get the watch back with a broken strap and a broken bezel. Not to mention the crappy job they did on the crystal - it doesn't even fit correctly in the watch.

When I refused to pay, he called me an asswipe. Whatever happened to customer service? Turns out I was legally bound to pay him. He called the cops and forced me to pay for the busted watch. The cops reluctantly said Eric was right - I had to pay him.

Eric, next time you screw up something that is valuable to someone, have the decency to do it free of charge.

Sincerely,

Capt. Tom Montgomery
