Subject: Help me out here; ... Suspension lift
IP: Logged

Message:
We need a REAL suspension lift for our '00 and newer Dakota trucks, but no one makes one YET! The story I keep getting when I call any of the manufacturers is that "there is no interest in having one". So lets fix that problem. I have emailed a number of the companies asking for a suspension lift, but one voice gets ignored too easily. Please help me out here, and e-mail a company and ask for a suspension lift for a late model Dakota 4x4.

We might just as well start with Rancho. Here is the contact information:

http://www.tenneco-automotive.com/gorancho_mail/

Thanks,
Doc.

CadetDak,
Not to be critical, but I’ve been seeing the same statement posted by numerous people for a year and a half now. I’m starting to think Rancho is just stringing a bunch of you along.

I agree, Walt. Kinda like Superlift telling me a lift was coming late summer/early fall, and then telling someone else here on the forum that they had no plans to develope a lift for the new Daks.

I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't think they have a clue as to what the hell is going on.

This was their response to my question

"Thank you for your interest in Rancho products. We do not have a release date for the Dakota kit. We are however, planning on releasing the kit some time in 2002. For further information on Rancho products, contact a distributor in your area. To locate a Rancho distributor visit our website at: www.gorancho.com.

I really don't want to come up w/ a suspension lift by my self like was needed w/ the tow hooks.

Here's the reply I got from Tuff Country:

Scott,
We will not offer a lift for the Durango/Dakota with the rack and pinion. You may want to check with Rancho or Superlift on this kit.

Thanks
Shawn

That sucks.

Ohhh for Pete's sake... Not knowing the grand differences in the R&P vs. pre 2k, how can that be such a huge design job that they don't want to even consider it.......
I suppose we just keep pestering them until they devote a little more time for us instead of the ultra high profit margin Expedition/Navigator/Escalade bunch.

Darn.

I dont think relocating the R&P would be that big a deal. The trick would be running the steering column to the relocated R&P. Considering the tight space in which to work, that is probably the biggest issue.

Just in case no one has noticed, the '02 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks now have rack and pinion steering. So it looks like the aftermarket manufacturers are going to HAVE to figure out how to lift a truck with rack and pinion steering, otherwise they will loose out on a huge share of the market.

Also, it would certainly be possible to retro-fit a circulating ball type of steering set-up on our '00 and newer trucks. Then we would effectively have the same as a '99 and older Dakota truck, and the Tuff Country lift would work. You won't see me doing that though, and not because of the steering retro-fit. I just have never been impressed with Tuff Country products in the least, that is why.

I have a 02 4X4 ram 1500. I have heard from every lift company that they are going to figure it out......well it has only been 10 months. The only thing I have seen is a 10 inch lift, just a little too high for me, but I would love to set it up about 6" with 35's. well keep dreaming cause this will never come out!!!!!

Hehe.. for the rams I'm fairly sure that they have one already.. Look around call a local shop & check out superlift I think they are the ones that had the 6" lift. I know Rancho has one for the new rams already. Check out http://www.gorancho.com/products/new_RS6572.stm it's 4" and you should be able to run 35's on it.

Not to bust your bubble, but that statement

"New 2000-2001 Dakota/Durango Systems Coming Soon!"

has been on their website for a real long time. Just look at this thread. It was started nearly a year ago and the expected release date was late 2001 / early 2002. It's now Sept. and the kit is still "Coming Soon!" I still think they are stringing you guys along.

Actually, I just saw in the off road magazine that they just came out with a 5" lift as well. My next question is as follows. If you are currently running 31" tires, you then add a 5" lift along with 35" tires. Is your overall lift 7"?

There is no way you can run 35" tires w/ only 5" of lift. But yes your calculations are correct if it was possible.

I have 6" of lift and I still rub w/ 33's when I have them all the way over to the side with the suspension fully compressed.

Hey Knobby,

Me and my buddy here at work just can't beleive with all that lift, 6", and you still get rub. I know my 285x75x16's AT are not even a 1/4" smaller than my 33x12.5x15 MTs. Side by side they are pretty much the same tire. According to specs they are 11.3 wide. How wide are your tires actually? Where do you rub? Is the backspacing the real issue for why you still rub?

I get no rub now, anywhere, still on stock. Even with the Hanson it does not help for the back of the wheel well.
Sorry, I am just trying to figure all of this out.

See I don't understand, According to the Rancho web site, they have a 4"kit that was designed to fit 35"s. So with that information how would they not fit under a 5" or even 6" kit?

A Ram can more than likely get 35s under it with a 4" lift. In fact I have seen it, so it can be done.

I've been preaching the story about Whiplash & Truckin-Suspension being the worst kits for you truck. But it seams only a few of you actually listen.

everret - I'm sorry that happened to you I had the same problem... Trust me .. If you didn't cut anything off your frame yet it will be ALOT less expensive for you to put your truck back to stock and put a body lift on it.

Please PLEASE don't put that whiplash kit on your truck.
