Subject: Best sand tires?

Message:
What are the best tires for offroading in sand? I occasionally like to play in the dirt, but mostly I wanna get on the beach, and its pretty soft out there. Thanks!

Also, anyone have any experience with BFG Baja T/A's? And are they worth $350 a tire? :)

a cheaper way to go is the Mickey Tompson Baja Belted, Baja HP, Super Swamper Thornbird, or even Good Year Hummer AM General tire. all of these have great floation over the sand.

The goodyear MT/S tire is great for that. And yes 350 a tire is worth it. Unless you find them for better. These tires are disigned using the latest technology and compounds. They have sidwall protections and are built much better to tighter tolorances then any other tire.

Ray, whoever is selling you those tires at $350 each is smoking some bad crack. I have 4 like new 32x11.50 BFG AT's I'll sell you for $100 each. Dont pay more than $125 each new.
Good sand tires include, but not limited to, BFG's, Pro Comp AT's (very good), Goodyear AT/S, Mickey T's, etc. Dont get an overly aggressive tire. You dont want one that will dig too much. They can do fine if driven right in the sand, but avoid the MT's in anything under a 33x12.50 for the sand. They are too aggressive for the amount of flotation they provide. Again, this only applies to sand and is not an absolute.

The Baja T/A's are a lot more expensive than the A/T's. The 33x12.50's run $329 at 4wheelparts.com. I dunno if they're worth the money or not. Never tried em.

I had my Mickey's in the sand one time, but just to get out to the beach. They did very well though.

I always run BFG All terrains in the sand. I have a set of 32x11.5" on my 4x4 dak. I take it out to the sand dunes all the time. I am going this weekend in fact. But stay away from mud tires, you don't want tread that is too far apart. I know for a fact that BFG all terrains work a lot better than the mud terrains in the sand. My $.02
