I was wondering if any of you who frequent offroad areas have a SC and what are the pros or cons of going offroad with an SC.

I'm looking for ways to get more power, but I don't want to hurt my off-road abilities in the process. If a SC can't handle a little dirt, water, or sand; I won't have it.

If Dodge made a 4x4 RT in a 5 speed package, I'd probably own it. Since they don't, I'll continue to improve what I have.

I just wish auto makers would make a really fun 4x4 package (I should get paid for this idea). It seems 2wd trucks (Lighting, Cyclone, RT) get to have all the fun. Sorry but a 2wd is almost worthless TO ME. I'll have a 4x4 til I die.

I was wondering the same thing as far as offroading and a super. As long as you have a good filter on there such as a K&N you shouldn't have to worry. I would just look at where the airfilter sits. If you can keep it high up in the engine comp, then do it. Learn form me, I took off the tube that feeds the factory air box and it takes in water. My truck actually compression locked from intaking too much water, but I think it was just as much of the waist deep water as it was the intaking of water. Had I left the tube on there, I might not've taken in the water, but still might've stopped by getting the distributor wet. Anyway, if they can find a way to keep the airfilter up high, then I'd get one.

There should be no difference where a 4x can go with a supercharger or turbo installed. I built a turbo system for my '97 4.0 Wrangler and it worked AWESOME off-road! Only thing is, with my turbo it gets really tricky when rock climbing. The powerband changes quickly with more boost which gives you less control trying to keep it slow. However, you should be fine with an S/C. Just make sure the airfilter is cleaned often!

I plan on getting the KB S/C for my 4.7 5spd. QC in a few months. Just need the cash!! :-)

I say GO FOR IT!! You won't regret it!

MY .02 cents

KB isn't the only player in the 4.7 SC market. I found this today.

Any thoughts on which might be better?

Maybe I should take this to the Performance Board, I'm still more interested in what 4x4 owners think.

What advantage would the ATI have over the KB or the Paxton. I just finished reading an article in Truckin about the different types of superchargers, but I felt like they left me hanging at the end.

The ATI uses a centri. SC combined w/ an air cooled intercooler. This system supposedly works best when you what your power in the top end. I saw an install article for this also. The air cooler kind of hangs low and sccops from under the bumper. I don't think that's good for Off Road.

http://www.procharger.com/trucks.html

KB uses a screw type SC which is supposed to make more power in the lower and mid range. Truckin says this works better for heavy vehicles such as trucks and SUVs. My Dak is 4,600 pounds. In the realm of trucks and SUVs, is that heavy? KB doesn't have a web site yet. Are they a small company?

The ATI might make more power than the Paxton because of the Air Cooler.

Any preferances to a screw system vs a Centr. system?

Sorry about the long message, but as more SC options become available for the 4.7, this thread may help others make an educated decision.
