Hey all!! How big of tires can I run on the Ifs dakota before I start having diff/cv issues? I'm considering 34" pizza cutters or 35"s. I wheel fairly hard, But In the technical stuff I'm gentle. I run a '94 trooper(7.62" ifs front) and it has held up to some pretty hard stuff. Wondering if the dodge stuff is tuff enough.(no disrespect meant, just curious) thnx

well IFS=not made to wheel, its just not.

you could run fine on the road but if wheeling you start to bounce and the tires grab and let go while spinning say bye bye to your cv shaft. the other thing you need to watch out for is depending on how you lift it to fit the 35's you may steepin the angle on the shafts to much which will also cause you cv snapping problems.

ytzuzu,

Lots of stuff to consider:
Which year (Generation) of Dakota determines how much modification ($$$) is required to run a 34" or 35" pizza cutter (that is slang for a narrow - usually 9.50 or 10.50 wide tire, WTF). Using a factory V-8 model Dakota as your base, you are going to get the strongest factory components. How stout? I have been out in my `95, thought I was taking it easy while a friend thought otherwise. I have also seen people who I thought were thrashing, yet they thought nothing of it. Each person on here has their own gauge of wheeling hard. Knock on wood, I haven't broke mine off road. Can't say that I've heard a bunch of horror stories of other leaving them stranded on here either.
I am currently running the BFG 33x10.5 BFG A/T KOs on my `95 Gen II. To do that I:
-Installed the Trailmaster 4" suspension lift
-3.25 offset American Eagle 15x8 wheels (req'd with the suspension lift)
-2" Performance Accessories Body Lift
-Adjusted the torsion bars up some
-Installed Glassworks Unlimited('opened and flared' 4"s) fiberglass fenders

You can see it on the Glassworks website...only now the fenders are painted/ pinstriped to match the truck. The photos do not do the fenders justice as to how far out they are flared. And no, I'm not affiliated with Glassworks in any way...just liked their product.

As for the Later versions, The Gen IIIs will accomadate larger diameter tires with a little less modification...but when you get into the years that switched to rack-and-pinion steering, you will find there is not as much in the way of aftermarket support. Hope this helps some. Good luck!
