my 92 dakota with the 5.2L V8 has started to squeel if i am right it needs a belt. is this a good guess?

Thats where i would start Paul, the noise should change when you turn the wheels maybe the other thing to look at might be an idler pulley.

put a LITTLE squirt of wd 40 on the BELT. if the squeel stops its the belt. the belts get hard and dry rot. the wd40 briefly lubes it and stops the squeel. you cant use this trick on pulleys though because the bearings are sealed.
