I busted up my rack and pinion on accident! How much is this going to cost me to fix it and does anyone have any good tips about doing this? 1993 Dakota 3.9 V-6 2WD Long bed Standard Cab.

Best is to buy the 3rd member assembly as a unit. All set up and ready to install. You could actually get the complete 3rd member out of a junk yard. Just look it over for scared gears. Last new assembly I bought was just over 600 bucks. That was a long time ago and done that rather then the junk yard because I was unable to locate one.

Rack and pinion not differential pinion. He broke the part that steers the truck not the one that makes it go.

I don't really know how much they cost but i would avoid one from a junkyard unless there is a lifetime warranty that will pay parts and labor if it breaks again.(makesure they will pay for labor most junk yards around my area have a lifetime warranty on parts like that but they wont pay for labor a couple of months ago i put a junkyard trans in a taurus and the car didn't make it 30 miles down the road before it broke again but the junk yard wouldn't pay for labor so the customer was out another 600 dollars for labor again) You should be able to pick up a remanufactured rack and pinion froma napa or auto zone for round about 200 dollars or so, i think.

Thank you kota Kid......... I was way tired when I wrote that. I wasn't even on the right end of the truck.
Even NAPA won't pay labor on a defective part.
