Ok I have been lookin on this board for info on a body lift for my truck I have a 99' Dak Extended cab 4x4 with a 5.2 with 112000 miles on it...now I would like all the info I can get im gonna be 18 here in a few weeks so im getting money and I plan on buying a 3 inch body lift.. I have taken shop classes in school and know my way around a torch and tools and im wondering how difficult this project would be cause I plan on doin it on a free day. But please I would like info on problems I may have and different things I can expect like clearance issues with hoses and steering... I am also looking at getting 33 inch tires on it but Im retarded when it comes to tire sizes and rims and Im wondering what a good Mud and Ice tire would be I am a farm boy and I live in north eastern montana where the winters suck and when it rains theres alot of mud to play in. I am also goin for a good aggressive look with the tires stickin out the sides just a lil, not to much but noticible. but yes It would be greatly appreaciated if someone could give me the downlow on what I can expect and what would be a good rim size and what good tires would be.

All you need is a tool box and possibly a dremmel. Everything comes in the kit that you're gonna need. I only had a problem with the steering extension. Had to dremmel it a little to get it in. Took me a little over 10 hrs to do it myself so you can look at that for you time frame give or take a little. Tires I have no idea I got some 32's before the BL and no probs but I'm kinda close to rubbing at full lock so you might have to do some trimming with 33's. Rims no idea on those...currently lookin for some.

Good for you, info please.
As you may have seen, there are many threads on this Dakota forum (and others) from frustrated people who tried to mod their trucks without doing research and asking questions first.
A huge part of successful modification begins with preparation and planning, so there are few, if any, surprizes when you go to install the mod.
You're off to a good start. Good luck to you.

yeah, i was looking into the engine swap in early 2003, then i did it in the summer of 05
there wasnt too much i didnt expect i had it all planned in my head and dealt with minor issues as they came up

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

Hey thanks for the responce on my questions but I have another. Say I ordered some 15x10 wheels and ordered a set of 33x12.5 R15 Tires would that fit on the rims? Like I said im retarded when it comes to tire size and rim size

Yes 33X12.50R15 tires will fit well on 10" wide wheels. Be careful with the off set of the wheel. Many aftermarket wheels have an off set that push the wheel outward further. This will increase the likely hood of tire contact with the rear of the front fenders. You could use an 8" rim and go with a 33X10.50 tire. I used stock 15X8" Gen III wheels and I had to do major trimming to the front fender. A wheel with less positive off set (or more negative) will push the wheel out even further causing even more issues when turning.

I know most of you guys will prolly think this is a dumb question but can I still go with the 33x12.50 R 15s with a 15x8 wheel and I was wondering if anyone does have that set up and if it rubs real bad or not... I wana go with the 15x10 but if it rubs then i'll just go with the 15x8's well thanks for the info and im glad I came to this board for help thanks guys

I would stick with the 15x8 even with 33x12.50R15 Tires. I have the stock 15x8s and they do rub a bit at full lock. I think 15x10s would make it rub worse, even with an offset because then it would just rub on the outside fenders instead of on the frame.

I definitely agree with Levey. I also have the stock 15X8 wheels with 33X12.50" tires. Rubbing on the frame is much better than rubbing on the fenders. If you want a different wheel or offset, you may want to mount up the tires on your stock wheels first so you can check/measure clearance to the fenders. I am assuming you have the 15X8" wheels and not the 15X7" wheels. If so you could save the money from new wheels for something else.

With 33/12.5 tires you should be able to fit them with 4-4.5 inches of backspacing on your new wheels. I think stock wheels come with 5.5 inches so 4-4.5 inches of backspacing would push your wheels out 1-1.5 inches from the frame, which should be enough because 33/12.5's should close the gap by about 1 inch.
Good luck on the body lift.
Also consider a 2" block and torsion bar crank, it's cheaper.

Well thanks for all the info you guys gave me I ended up getting the kit from Performance Accessories and installing it out on our farms shop. The kit went on easy (even with the wrong instructions) 3 of us installed the kit in about 6 hours and now my truck looks great with its added height.. now the only thing I need are some bigger tires Im thinkin about goin with 32x11.50r15's since I have only stock rims and don't want them to rub bad.. well anyway thanks for all the info I needed on the kit and such

I did the 3 inch BL on my '00 Dak...took my brother and I 16 hours WITHOUT a single, friggin' power tool. Kind of a pain in the ass but it's done. I have 33x12.50's and they fit fine on the stock rims, no rubbing with the torsion bars cranked. Now I have Pro Comp black steel rims with a negative offset (i think 4.75??) and it looks soooo badass. Bad news...they rub but only my fender flares. I'd have to do some serious cutting to make them not rub but for now, I can live with it. Don't go with a 10 inch wide rim...you won't be able to shove it in your wheel well...stick with 15x8. Only problem is you'll get some crowning with your tire and it'll vibrate until the tire warms up but it's not that bad. Good luck...

anyone know if a 3 inch body lift would clear 33x12.50 BFG MT's without rubbing? would i have to trim the factory fender flares or would i be ok while turning? i also have the 3.9..for the time being before i can throw an 8 in there..do you think ill be ok power wise? as it sits now i have a stock 02 dakota sport 4x4. one other thing..would i need wheel spacers?! would the tires stick out enough to where i wouldnt need spacers? i want them to stick out just alittle so when i go through a hole, mud gets thrown all over my truck (and for the badass look). are the 12.50 tires wide enough to where i dont need wheel spacers for them to stick out or will they be entirely tucked into my wheel wells? will i be able to clear the 33s without rubbing fully turned? should i go with a 4 inch lift? would that clear them better? im 18, this is my first truck, and naturally dont want to mess it up. id rather spend a few extra dollars to do it right then to cut corners and have problems later (without going to a suspension lift). thanks so much in advance!
