Message:
My question to you guys is which is better, Shackle lifts or block lift in the rear? Is there a difference in ride quality, Plus if anybody could find me a link where I can order a 2" block or shackle for my Dak. I can't find any!

Thanks for your help, I love this site and always come back for questions and I always get my answers, thanks alot you guys.

Definitely go with blocks, they look a lot better because they are more hidden. Long shackles look ugly in my opinion. I have 2" blocks in the rear which I bought at Kragen Auto Parts for $40. Not a bad price, Shackles will probably cost more anyhow. Most auto parts stores will have generic blocks that will work with your Dakota.

Here's a pic of my truck with blocks, you can't see any junk hanging down like you will with shackles:

Another thing to consider > Longer shackles give a better ride > Been there , done both

So many problems > So little time

Actually, can't just go LONGER shackles on our Daks.

Because the leaf goes ON TOP of the frame mount and the shackle from the leaf goes DOWN to the frame mount. So longer shackles in the same configuration would LOWER our Daks LOL!

2" blocks should be pretty safe. But anything more than 2" blocks is suicide if you do any serious off roading. The longer they are, the weaker the connection between the axle and the leaf spring.

One other question, how much should i go, I'm going to crank the torsion bars to even it, i think 2.5 turns will do fine, How much lift should that give me in the front? and with whatever that # is how big of a block should i put in the back, i'd like a slight rake to the truck.

The amount of turns you will need can vary depending on your stock setting. What I recommend is measuring your stock height first. Park on level ground and measure from the top of the wheel to the middle of the fender. Lift the truck off the ground and crank the torsions a few turns evenly on both sides. Let the truck down and drive it for a mile or so. Then return to the same level spot and measure again. Repeat this process until you get the desired lift. Do not exceed 2"s.

I did a 2" crank on the front and put on 2" blocks in the rear. My truck sits slightly higher in the rear, I added 265/75/16s BFG's and it looks aggressive, I am very happy with it.

FYI, I had 2" blocks and a torsion crank.
The good news is that even with the blocks, I had no axle hop at the track or on the street.

I have a mysterious clunk up fron (don't notice play in the ball joints) and have not located it. But I THOUGHT maybe it was from the torsion crank, the suspension riding at the upper limit and bouncing off of the bumpers all of the time.
It wasn't that cuz it still does it.

And now I think I went down TOO far with the torsions. Or I was just used to the awesome ride it had when it was cranked up, it flew over dips and now it's back to almost bottoming out. I need stiffer shocks...
