I just purchased a 2003 Dakota 4x4 4.7L SLT regular cab. I want to have a shop install a 3" bodylift for me, and have a couple of questions before doing.

1. will any wiring or lines need to be extended.

2. will i see anything hanging under the front bumper.

3. cost to have shop install.

4. is there anything i should Know?

also i have 3.55 gears and 265/70R16 tires now if i go up to the 75R16 will it stress the tranny or should i wait to go up when i install new gears? i drive over tall mountain passes weekly.

No, maybe radiator hose maybe

2. will i see anything hanging under the front bumper.

NO

3. cost to have shop install.

For the love of God do it yourself, its really not that hard

4. is there anything i should Know?

Do it yourself save the 500-700 dolars, go with 285/75/16 tires.

Ive got a couple of my own questions...

1. Are new gears required for a body lift, or are they recommended?

2. Will I be able to run 33's with a 3 inch body lift on a 99 4x4 dakota?

3. Where can I find info on how to install the body lift by myself?

Thx

1) No new gears are not required for just a body lift however see #2

2) Yes you should be able to run 33x10.5 without any rubbing or 33x11.5 with rubbing at full lock. If you currently have 3.55 diffs you may want to go to 4.10s.

3) Instructions come with the lift. I would recommend having someone to at least help you lift the cab. While you can do this yourself it is much easier to have an extra set of eyes watching to make sure nothing gets stretched or hung up.

My 305/70R16 (33.1" x 12.3") tires rub slightly on the frame at full lock with the 3" BL and 1" torsion bar crank. 2004 Dakota. I think (just guessing) that many folks with larger tires also have offset rims that will cause rubbing on the bumber (need to trim)...my stock rims allow me to clear my bumber.

Also, think about why you would upgrade your gears. If it is for towing or just to have more balls, then fine. But if you are getting them because your gas mileage dropped like mine did and you need more power to push the truck then think about how much gas you can buy with the $1200 that the gear upgrade will cost. Probably take you 3-4 years before you break even.

if you are running 3.55 gears and want to go with 33" tires it is always a good idea to upgrade your gears. 4.10 would work.

remember with the bigger tires your truck will be more slugish even more on hilly roads and will put some extra strain on your tranny. New gears will make up for these problems.

I went from the stock P265/70/16 to Durango XTR A/T LT265/75/16 and lost 2MPG.

I wanted the larger tires and 10ply tread/6ply sidewall was appealing for my off-road driving habits. I have run through brush, cactus, mesquites and extremely rough terrain. Only had 1 flat in 45K miles. A large nail did manage to puncture the tread.

like 03Dakman said "remember with the bigger tires your truck will be more slugish even more on hilly roads and will put some extra strain on your tranny. New gears will make up for these problems."

That is why I only went up 1 size.

with the stock tires I could get spin on dry pavement until the LSD kicked in & shot off like a rocket. Now it's nearly impossible to spin the tires even on wet roadway.

hope this can help
