Anyone know what kind of a lift you can get just
adjusting torsion bars and block the rear leafs
on a 2000 Clubcab 3.9L? I'm clueless to all of
this and my brother inlaw was talking about it
a while back.

Thanks in advance,

You can get as much as 2 or 3 inches, maybe more, of lift in the front by cranking up the torsion bars but, your ride will be very stiff and harsh and you will wear out the bars much quicker. I wouldnt do more than about an inch on the front with the torsion bars.

Thats all I was looking for. Just a little bit so I
can put on a little bigger tire. I measured the
height of the tires that came on it as it sits and
they came to 28". if I were to crank the torsion
bars a bit, what would you reccomend for tire
size and width? I want to keep the factory rims.
I won't be doing to much off roading. I just
want it to look good going down the road.

Thanks again.

this would be my recommendation: Lift the torsion bars about 1-1.5". Then, install a 1-2" spacer in the rear axle to compensate for the front. Then, get an alignment done from a place that understands the camber adjusting in a torsion bar lift.

You can consider a 2" body lift too, if its larger tires you seek. Hawkeye knows all about body lifts....

After my body lift I cranked up the torsoin bars 1" as well. Just to level the truck out. There is room to do more..but didnt want to be going through torsion bars like ....well... umm.. every month or two...LOL!!!!

1" will be no more wear than normal...

DUH! I should have thought before I typed. Of course it is a 4wd it has torsion bars. Sorry, brain lapse. If you have the factory P235's then they are basically 29 inches tall (28.8 to be exact). If you have the 15x7 rims you can fit 32x11.50's with no problem. If you dont want to go that big then get 31x10.50's. You can also do as Tiger said. That was going to be my next thought. I have heard a few guys cranking the bars about an inch or so and putting 1 inch blocks under the back. Still wont allow you to go bigger than 32's but it will look good and give you a little more height. I dont know if there is a 2 inch body lift available for the 2000 clubcab or not. I know there is for the 99's. That same kit may work. For the Quad cab's all that is available is the 3 inch.
Thanks for the plug there Tiger!! ;-)

What is the maxxx anyone recommends torquing the torsion bars... (1 inch, 2 or can 3 be done)

I raised my 2000 Dakota 1.5inch (front)
installed a 2 inch block (rear)

looks "Not Bad" but I would still like more height in the front...

Right now the rear sits 2.5 inches taller, looks very agressive...

Thanks

I'm pretty sure no one makes this for the Dakota but its a pretty cool item. The rear of the torsion bar is in a keyway in the crossmember and depending on how these keyways are made they can lift the truck up to 2" in addition to cranking the bars. Just a thought - I might try to develop a set of these and sell them to people for a price a heck of a lot cheaper than any suspension lift. These - combined with 2 or 3" blocks in the rear could allow for 33" tires, on the right backspacing of course.

Not sure what Phils problem is but we have no lift thus we are adjusting the torsion bars to accomidate larger tires without putting on the body lift.

I run 33" tires full torsion bar crank and trimmed.

My only recommendation that some will argue is, do it right have it aligned if you crank the torsion bars. You can get up to 2 inches in height. The torsion bars will sag after time due to the extra stress but are a pretty easy fix if you have a problem with them.

Now that Rancho has released a good lift for us we can fork out the cash and do it right.

I have a 95 dakota 3 inch body lift by www.performanceaccessories.com,3.5 inch blocks in the rear and have the torsion bars cranked all the way up which raised the front around 2 inches,it's been about 6 month's with the bars cranked no problems what so ever,it felt a little tippy so I installed a new set of shocks up front which corrected that problem, there's a company www.readylift.com that sells torsion bar keyway lifts which allow you to raise or(crank the torsion bars) 2-3 inches higher than stock(which is what I need to level out my truck) readylift told me early in 2007 keyways will be available for my 95 truck ,check them out
I have 31X12.50 Procomp AT on Procomp 1069 with 3.75 backspacing wheels, no rubbing at all up front could fit 35's on rear, wheelwells are even with top of tires

You guys gotta be careful cranking torsion bars. Even with new Tb keys the angles on the cv joints get too steep going more then 2" on a tb crank. Youll end up wearing out cv joints and ball joints quickly. I got the 3" rancho kit for my 97. Well worth the money. It can actually be cranked to about 4 inches over stock in the front with out sacrificing cv joint and control arm angles. Rides amazingly nice. My advice. stop being cheap and get the rancho

Or you can do what ever you want really. I've had my TB's cranked for almost 2 years and have had absolutely no problems. TB keys are a waste of money because you are not gonna be able to go any higher than what your bump stops are going to let you, and with the stock set up you can crank them down all the way til it hits. There's no point in trying those. Cheap...I think not. I didn't want a huge lift to be able to fit the 32's. Why spend at least $1400 on the lift and then some more for a shop to install it? That's just a waste of money, when I can just go crank my TB's for free and then go get my tires. There is no arguement here, you went your way and lots of us have gone this way. Difference of opinion. This is just another option for someone who doesn't have the money for the lift.
