you can get a little extra height but cranking up the t-bar is hard on the other suspension components because it moves everything out of factory alignment, it will make your stuff wear out faster. aint worth it, from somebody who wanted that extra inch....

Actually this affects some, not all aspects of an alignment. It is wise to have your truck re-aligned afterwards. I raised mine a couple inches this way several years ago and haven't had any wear problems due to it; and that's with the added abuse of carrying a plow.

Hi Garrick, cranking up the torsion bar works okay, but on my 2002 with rack and pinion steering, i did have added wear in certain components like the outer cvs and uper balls. i never had any trouble with wheel alignment though. I usually lead, cant stand to follow, and its usually a jeep that wont get the heck out of they way !

Your front suspension is pretty similar to mine then. How many miles did it take for you to see wear in the outer cv joints ? Just saying I haven't sen any extra wear in 40,000 miles. The upper ball joints were subject to a recall, I think your year was included too ? Yet mine were still fine even with the torsion bar lift, while many who didn't have the lift had them go bad - might not be cause and effect there; in addition to the acknowledged design defect, I think there was also an issue with quality control. Damn shame those pesky Jeeps are mopars too, or I'd suggest a little bump & run !

i did the ball joint recall but it was after my off-road shop noticed the extra wear on a routine inspection after some serious terrain knocked my alignment out. we have a steep limestone hill that when wet you have to make run at it and at the top are rock outcroppings that pound you. at the time they saw the added wear the bars had been cranked for about 15K, so its definitely different from your experience. who knows, maybe my suspension mechanic was seeing things, though he is really really good and dependable. i have a buddy with a Durango and he has had mucho ball joint trouble.

speaking of those mopar jeeps, its kinda funny the way they used to look at my Dak like it didnt belong.. can only guess at home many times i've snatched a stuck one out, though to be fair most of em are not locked but I am. some of them are just poor drivers, or too late realize they have no balls for it. you know, go out and buy a jeep and think "off-road king", not realizing what they are getting into once they get out there. see you later...

You think maybe the wear was more due to the way you're thrashing your truck than the cranked torsion bars ? Just a thought. Have fun !

well, i said the same thing to my off-road suspension mechanic, and he didnt entirely disagree. i'd say to anybody with a straight face that for a medium duty truck, the Dak will take a beating with the best of them, and do a whole helluva lot better than many. talk to you later...
