Subject: 06 Solid Axle???

Message:
Hey guys,
I have a 97 with the 3 inch body lift and was talking to another guy with the same setup as me. I told him I wanted to do a solid axle swap up front and he tells me he is going to get his done this summer. I said "WTF? Are you serious?" He said his dad works at a dodge dealership and that the 06 Dakota is going to have a solid axle front end option!!! I thought this was not possible, but he swears it is true and that they will be able to be bought to do this to our 97 and up dakotas who need this swap, but with all the necessary hookups ready to go.
I realize all yall are probably thinking I am a fake and trying to get your hopes up, BUT, I want to see if there are any dodge mechanics who can back this up for me. I REALLY want the solid axle, and this sounds like it would be the deal! Maybe they decided to bring the Jeep axle over, I donno, but man I cant wait to get my hands on one!

Has ANYONE else heard this?

I don’t believe that’s remotely true because, that would totally buck the current trend DC has been following for the last few years. The Dakota 4x4 has always been an IFS front suspension; the Ram 1500 4x4 went from a solid axle to IFS in 2003 and even the new Cherokee is IFS this year. Since the average truck owner will never lift them or even take them off-road for that matter, DC is building their vehicles for better road handling characteristics which IFS has a clear advantage. Plus, there is a major push to consolidate platforms so in the future you’ll see different DC nameplates with common chassis (ie. Mercedes, Dodge and Jeep models with the same rolling chassis underneath). They want to do that to reduce R & D costs which is something high on DC’s priority list considering the company’s financial situation. The return on investment for developing a solid front axle “option” wouldn’t warrant developing a separate rolling chassis for it.

SO DC spends millions to design an all new 05 Dakota, and then says.... Oh, we forgot the solid axle option. We'll sell both?! Does this make any sense at all? The only front solid axle truck DC makes is the Ram HD 4x4. YOUR DAD IS ON CRACK... (typical for a dealership)
