Well, got the 3 inch body lift, Pro Comp 33x12.50 X-Terrains, and American Racing black steel rims today. Will be installing them all this weekend. Waiting on the Fabtech Pre-Runner bar to come in, maybe tomorrow, Monday at the latest. Will be taking lots of pics of the install and finished product. Will also try to make as detailed notes as possible for anyone that is considering going the same route.

Did putting the 32x11.50 on your truck effect anything (not sure what to call it). I heard the bigger the tires the more work you have to do on the gears to compensate for the bigger tires?? Im guessing the 32's dont make that big of a difference to alter any affected components....does this make sense?
Thanks

Blckdak. Yes, the bigger tires you go the lower the gears need to be. 32's didnt really affect me at all. Mainly becasue the 4.7 makes such nice torque and the new tranny seems to be geared better than the old.(like on our 5.2 99 Durango) I hvae 3.55 gears. The 3.92's would be better. I have always had 33's on my fulsize F150's with 3.55's. I do plan on going to 3.90's though as soon as I can get the money. Thats my next big project. The 32's made my speedo read slow a little as well. At 65mph I was actually doing 69. The faster you go the bigger the difference and the slower the less. Had a friend (police officer) check it with a laser.

Andy, Thanks! I hope so.

Thanks for putting up with all my rambling on this post. I am just really excited!

Sorry guys. Had company come over this evening.

Well, Here it is in a nutshell.
IT ROCKS!!!

The lift went on as smooth as anything. Only a few little aggravations but nothing major. Tires clear with NO rubbing anywhere. Looks awesome. Feels like you are 10 ft in the air going down the road. All I can say is if you are considering the Performance Accessories body lift, DO IT. The instructons were as good as any I have seen. As long as you follow them EXACTLY and take your time, its a piece of cake. We started at 8:30 this morning, stopped to eat about 12:30 and then back to work at 1:00 and were basically finished by 5:00. Had to come home for the guest that came over so I am going to be doing all the final stuff tomorrow, adjusting the front bumper, installing the pre runner bar, double checking everything etc. Only thing we did wrong was on the lower radiator hose. Kit has an extension for it adn we made the cut in the hose at the wrong spot so it is a little close to the fan. Going to pick up 1 or 2 extra hoses and change it. It rubs ok though. Everything had plenty of room for adjustment. All the lines, hoses, etc. Cab and bed lined up perfect the first time. I tried to take pictures but didnt get as many as I wanted because in all the excitment I failed to notice that there were not that many on the roll in th camera and I was unable to get my mother in laws Dig camera. As soon as I get these developed I will let everyone know. This kit truly is a bolt on kit. Only a small trim is neccessary on the bottom of the fan shroud, and you have to cut the transfer case link under the truck and weld in an extension rod that is supplied in the kit. very easy. Going to get mine done tomorrow. Is drivable now just cant go into 4 low. Frame is not even noticable. I thought it would show much more than it does. Looks like a normal truck to me. Dodge has the bodys on the Daks kinda wrapped down over the frame so lifting it makes it look kinda like a regular fullsize truck would. After I am finished with all the final adjustments tomorrow, I will be going for a little test run. Will post how it goes. I could have been all done today if I hadnt had to come home early. If you do this your self just plan on having 2 days, one to do it in, and a second to make any adjustments or what not. Also have a friend. Much easier with 2 people. As for the tires, Only made a short drive down the road but for as aggressive as these things are there is hardly any noise. Much quieter than My BFG MT's I had on my last truck. Ride is very good. I dont know where people get off saying the 4.7 has no torque because even with my 3.55 gears this thing will still get up and go with no prob. 3.90's in this thing will be awesome. If you have the 5.9 you will like it even more with the bit of extra torque it makes. It just looks freakin great now. You will make people envious with this lift and some tires. I will give some more thoughts tomorrow after all the final adjustments are made and I have given it some good driving tests.

One correction, above where I said "It rubs ok though" in referance to the radiator hose, that should say "It runs ok though". The fan is missing the hose just not by much. Might even try running to NAPA today for another. To hard to get to the dealership and they rob you blind on parts anyway.

Well, Its all finished. Went to NAPA and got a new lower radiator hose. I highly recommend this if you are doing this lift. I got a 23 inch Heavy Duty Universal fit hose. Very stought. Feels much beefier than the stock one. You can bend it just how you need it and not have to use the hose extention that comes wth the kit. Pre runner bar looks great, just needs a couple of nice KC lights now. Only problem is the bumper extension brackets give the bumper a little more forward flex with the weight of the bar on it (its not really heavy though). My uncle is a master welder and fabricator. Going to Georgia in 2 weeks to visit family and he is going to weld some support braces on to beef it up a little. I like beefy. Even going to have him weld plates into the curves on the front lower part of the frame. This will let me mount normal tow hooks right there as the bottom of the plastic on the bumper is right there. Wont have to cut the bumper or anything. I am so happy with this setup. I have a big dirt pile in my front yard. About 3 feet high and flat on one side from me spearding the dirt. Put the dak in 4 low. Clinbed right up, no hesitation, almost at an idle. Put it in 4 high. Had to use a little more gas but no problem. Went to 2wd. The dang thing climbed it again with no problem. These X-Terrains GRAB the freakin ground. No wheel spin, they just dig in and grab like nobodys business. Got the truck all off camber and twisted up. No popping, squeaking, or anything unusual at all. I am so proud of myself on the way this turned out. I would do it again in a heartbeat. The truck has a very menacing look as well. Again, the frame show is nill. Looks NOTHING like other trucks of which we will not mention any names (S-10's) that look goofy with the way the frame shows. A good set of nerf bars and you wont notice the frame at all. I could go on about this all night. I will post when I have the pictures developed.

Well, the ride to work this morning went great. Only noticed 1 thing. With the speedo dead on 45 mph the tires are really loud. A little above or below 45 and they get quiet again but you still know that they are there. Ride is very good for such an aggressive tire. Actually kinda like the roar at 45. Sounds mean. Want to really give it a good working off road and on the road in the rain. Now, where is some rain when you need it. I know I will have to get fender flares now as the tires do stick out a tad and will no doubt cover the sides of the truck with road grime in the rain.

Thanks guys. I wasnt able to get my mother-in-laws Digital camera so I have to get the film developed. Hope to in the next week or so. Please keep checking, as soon as I get them I will post. I would love to see as many lifted Daks as possible on the roads so if I can be of any help drop me a line. I'm no expert by a long shot, but I'll do what I can.

Pulled up next to a lifted (2 to 3 inch body) toyota with 32 or 33 swampers on it at a light on the way home. He was checking ou tthe truck really hard. Sure was a nice feeling to be sitting higher than him. When the light changed and we started off, hehe, you could here his "weeeeeeee" sound from his exhaust, and then my flowmaster started growling. I loved it. He was pushing the gas hard to get going and I was barely on the gas. I let him go by and pulled behind him just to get a look at his from the rear. He kept looking over his shoulder and in the rear view mirror at me like he was scared I was going to run him over. I honestly was just checking out his truck. Fora toy it actually looked pretty good. I like 4x4's period but I am WAY BIASED towards Daks.

i cant wait to see your pictures. they will be the deciding factory of whether or not i go with the bodylift. like i said before, i just bought a g.s. brush guard, but that isnt going stop me from getting a bodylift, if i like what it looks like. im going to have the guys next door to my work,(metal fabricaters), work me up a bracket so i can keep it. my main concern was the frame sticking down too low(s-10), but from what you said, it is nothing like that.
im trying to justify to myself the purchasing of the x-terrains. i commute everyday, so i was wondering how far you drive to work, and what kind of mileage you think you will get out of them.
lastly, did the kit come with front and rear bumper kit.
plans:
3" body lift
lift lips
33x12.5-15 procomp x-terrains
15x8 procomp classics (a/e 589)

thanks for your time.

Question: when you did the body lift, was either the front or rear bumpers attached to the frame, or bolted? In other words, sometimes when somebody does a body lift, they have to get out the welding equipment because lifting the body also means leaving a huge gap between the body and the bumper. So sometimes people will have to weld the bumper about 2-3" higher to accomodate the new body lift. How did that process go??? Any probs with the bumper attachments?

Tiger, they are both just bolted on. The kit came with all the relocation brackets for the front and rear bumpers. I looked at making my grill guard work as well. It can be done, you will just need someone that is a good welder and fabricator to make the new brackets for you for the bottom of the guard. Will also need to weld a support brace of some kind on to the new top bumper bracket. It is C shaper and has a little give to it and with the weight of the grill guard, the guard may wiggle a little. Thats why I say it needs a little brace to tighten it up. It will work though. I just really wanted the pre runner bar on mine any way so I didnt fool with it.
The frame does show a little but to me its not nearly as bad as the S-10's. May just be my perception. The X-Terrains seem to do well so far. Just dont buy them if you want a nice quiet super smooth ride. No tire this aggressive, even my beloced BFG MT's, will give you that. Do get them if you want a tire that feels like it is glued to the ground on dirt, grass, etc. and dont mind a little noise. I drive about 50 miles round trip (24 to 25 one way) to and from work every day with no other stops in between.

Gave it another little test on the way home from work today. Saw a fairly deep ditch with gnarly sides and said what the heck, lets see what the tires can do and what my approach angle is like. First pass I crossed it at an angle. No problem at all. Then I went straight across it. Dropped the front end in and really thought the bottom of the front bumper or front tag bracket was going to hit. It never did. Got the front end up and out and the back end dropped in. Really got a little worried here. I felt the receiver hitch on the back hit the back side of the ditch. Gave it a little gas very easy and it crawled right out. Oh yeah, did I mention that I was still in 2wd. These tires impress me more everytime I try them. Even with some of the weight off the back end with the receiver hitch resting firmly on the ground, they still grabbed enough traction to pull out. I love this truck more and more every day. It doesn't ride like a cadilac on the road anymore (still a noce ride though) but what little bit of smoothness was lost on road was gained 100 times over off road.

Yeah, they fit the 97 - 00, there are a few little differances in the bolts between 98 and 99 it seems. 99 and 00 seem to be the same. The topo supports will still have bolts to bolt on to, its just that the bracket that they bolt onto is the one that lifts the bumper and it has a slight bit of forward play in it. If you can get someone to make you some brackets for the bottom then I think the top will be easy to sturdy up. Not this coming weekend btut he following I will be visiting family in georgia and my uncle is a great welder and fabricator. Going to see what he can come up with real quick. Yes my opinion has changed. I have been against body lifts for some time now, but I just couldnt stand it any longer. I had to get some 33's under this already awesome truck. My opinion is that body lifts now are not what they were 9 or 10 years ago. For the money I think it is an excellent way to go. For baja racing or really hardcore off roading, probably not the way to go. For the mild to moderatly serious off roader its great. I still love susp lifts, Rancho in particular. I may still add a susp lift down the road. But right now I could go a long time with the truck just like it is (not counting all the other small to medium things I want to add, like step bars, lights, etc).

My wife is dropping the first roll off tomorrow and I will finish using the second roll up Friday at the beach. By next week I should have them all ready for your viewing pleasure, or displeasure, whichever the case may be. Get ready to put those step bars back on you just took off. The best time to do it will be when you do the lift. The kit will come with loctite for you to put on the new body bolts and you dont want to have to take them back off once they are on if you can help it.

Ahh, the legions are growing slowly at last. Soon the country will be dotted the the sight of the mighty lifted Dakota and the roar of its mudd tires will be heard throughout the land, slaying the evil S-10's, toyotas, nissans, rangers, Z-71's and F150's from far and wide!!!!

Kevin just remember that with a body lift it lifts only the body so your engine will now sit lower you may have to redo you shaker hood so it will still match up.Didnt know if ya thought about that.As soon as i can get my wife to go along with it mine will be lifted, but she whats me to finish her car first then build a porch on the house and buy new furniture before I can spend more money on the truck.BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!but its not like I cant do any off roading with the way it is right now, hell whats a 1/2 of an inch anyway, thats all I would get by putting 33s on it,and the body lift dosent get the frame up any higher,so I may just be patient and wait for the Rancho lift,or maybe not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, Viper .... I guess my mind hadn't gotten that far to think about the hood business. Dammit. Now I gotta figure out a shaker spacer.

Thanks for the heads up, though. At least I won't be surprised by that one.
