Subject: Torsion Bars Adjustment

Message:
Hey guys, I had posted a message on the General Board about the front end of my 99' Dodge Dakota 4X4 getting lower. I have taken the truck to the dealer for the 2nd time and they say that the truck is in specs and it is not. I have asked them to raise the front end and they say that they can't anymore. The torsion bars are turned all the way and the truck is still lower than any other Dakota one the road. My friend said that Dodge built the truck wrong and that the bars need to be taken off and repostioned so that there is room to turn the bolt more. How hard is it to take the torsion bars off and put them back on so there is room to turn the bolt more. The front is not level with the back of the truck at all the back of the truck is sticking in the air so much more than the front and I need help!! If anyone has any suggestions on how all this can be done please help.

Thanks

I would call chrysler customer service and pitch a fit. Tell them your problem and that the dealer refuses to help any more. That will at least get the dealer dinged for being a pain, and they may help you get it fixed. I have found calling the customer service very helpful in these cases, as the dealers usually don't give a rats a$$ about your problems. Your torsion bars should only be adjusted about halfway to get the proper ride height. Over many years this will need to be adjusted up, but not on a 99.

Try a real suspension shop in your area if Dodge won't help. They would be your best bet.

Is there another Chrysler dealer in the area that you could take the truck to and get a 2nd opinion? As far as I'm concerned, a dealer that refuses to help you (on a 1999) vehicle, is probably ignorant enough to misdiagnose the problem and the proposed solution. May try getting other opinions...
