Subject: 30" fit with no lift
IP: Logged

Message:
I just wanted to post to everyone that 30" tires will fit without a lift. I just did it this afternoon, and it doesn't rub. No trimming. No wheel spacers. Its all stock 2wd reg cab dakota with 15X7 rims. so if you want a much better look without spending, just buy 30" tires. Looks good and proportional.

sorry for posting this. It was just meant to be a quick answer to the tire question that has been asked many times.

Before you etch that on stone tablets, clarify some details first. What year is your Dakota? There are physical differences in the wheel wells of an “N” body vs. an “AN” body Dakota. What style 15x7 rims? Dodge offered 2 or 3 different styles of rims on the 2wd Dakotas, with some variations in the backspacing. No rub, full lock, under compression or just on a level surface? You need to clarify some details before confusing some of the novice readers.

Its a 2000 reg cab 4 cyl dakota. The rims are the ones that come with the sport package (its a sport). don't have any picts yet, but I could post one tomorrow. As for full lock rubbing, I have about 2" of clearance between the wheen and the chassis at full lock, and as far as what I can see, I don't think there is any way of rubbing under compression of suspension. I haven't takin out on any trails yet (probably tomorrow) to see how they do off road, but under moderate braking with the wheel cranked pretty sharp, I still didn't get any rubbing. like I said, looking at the profile of the tire and estimating where the wheel would sit at max suspension compression, I don't see there being a possibility of rubbing. I got the tires from Costco, and they actually have a 30x9.50x15 as a stock replacement in the computer and in a tire guide book (I looked at it). Costco is the only place however that said this. Other places say a 235x70x15 is the max, which is only a 1/2" shorter tire, and 1/4" narrower, so I can't see that making any difference. Good year told me those metrics where the biggest that would fit. It could however be influenced by the brand of tire, as a 30x9.5x15 BF goodrich (what I have) is actually a 29.5x9.4x15 so maybe with a different tire manufacturer this could be different. I think they are alloud an 1" or so of play when they tell you a 30" tire (could be anywhere from 29.5-30.5 mounted). thats about the best description I can give, and thats all the info I know. the truck does however ride better in my oppinion in terms of rebound. It rides smoother over bumps than the stock tires, and there is very little difference in engine power. The speed is off, but I think its only about 6mph at 60mph. I'll try to post some picts tomorrow if I get chance. Hope that helps clarify.

I got the picts ready. Hopefully they post ok.
Nope. How do you post picts onto a reply like this? I know people do it. Do you have to be a member? Well, if anyone can tell me, I'll do it. Otherwise I can email them.

I took my truck wheelin today with those wheels. No rubbing. I made sure to slam the bumb stops to make sure, but nothing. I cranked the wheel and maxed the suspension compression, and still no rubbing. They worked really well.

why BFG ATs? they suck in the mudd and snow and wet pavement i got 30x11.5r15 TSL/SXs they scrub alot at full lock and a lil bit at full compression. but i can explain them b/c my truck is a 87 2wd (worn and saggin front springs) and its only got a 15x6 rim w/ like 4inch back spacing(found 15x8s w/ 2inch backspacing and yes i know my tires are gonna be way on out there but ill still watch baseball size mud coggs flyin over my head and landin 40ft away)

I can't find mud for my truck since I live in arizona. Naturally, the wet pavement isn't a problem either. I got them because they are fairly knobby tires and run at very low psi which is good in the sand. they also have decent milage from what ive been told. Im very happy with the tires, and they perform very well here. They are also pretty resistant to punctures from sharp rocks, which is another concern for me.
