 Subject: 4 Door Truck Comparison

I just finished reading an article where a new 4 door Toyota Tacoma Double cab 4x4 was tested. It was compared with other 4 door 4x4 trucks - Nissan Frontier, Chevy S-10, & Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The Toyota was raved on as by far the best 4 door truck available, both on and off road. It was noted for having a larger bed, more interior room, and much more power than the others. I take note though that the Dakota Quad cab was not listed. I wonder why that could be. Could it be that because the Toy V6 makes 220 ft-lbs of torque at 3600 RPM but the Dak V6 makes a much more off-road usable 225 ft-lbs of torque at 3200 RPM? Yes the Toy does make more HP, 190 at 4800 vs 175 at 4800 for the Dak, but that 15 hp is easily gained with a few aftermarket add on's. Could it be that the Dak has much more interior room? Could it be that the Dak has a higher tow capacity? Could it be that the Dak has a larger bed? Could it be that the Dak is available with 2, count them 1,2 V8's?? Dont get me wrong, I am not knocking Toyotas, well maybe a little. If I had to own a foreign truck (yes I know they are made here) it would be a Toyota. I just think that the Dak is hands down the best 4x4 4 door truck available. I dont understand why it doesnt get compared to the competition more.

I agree with you Hawk.They already know that the Dakota is the best truck out there on the market they just want to give the other players a chance.I really don't understand there logic when they test certain trucks like the foor doors and leave a major player out like the Dakota.I mean come on it is available with two v8 and they don't even included it in there test.That is uncalled for but then again maybe because the others only had v6's.Still that should not matter,you are going to penalize a truck just because it produces more power than the rest.Very shallow!!

Yeah .. I always wondered the same thing. I've never seen the quad cab go head to head with the other guys before.
I always assumed they already knew they were out of their league! ;o)

Just saw a review on Car and Driver TV on the GMC Sonoma 4 door 4x4 (Chevy S-10). Boy they love GM products on there. I have never seen them say 1 bad thing about a GMC or Chevy. They raved over the Sonoma. Again, it was just over $26,000. I only paid about $27,000 for mine and I got again, a V8 vs a V6, more payload, more towing capacity, more room, and in my opinion a much physically stronger truck. I would love to see an unbiased head to head test of the Chevy S-10, GMC Sonoma, Nissan Frontier, Toyota, Ford Sport Trac, and the Dakota, all 4 doors, all 4x4s, go head to head. But I guess it would probably be pointless as we already know who the winner would be.
Do I sound a little prejudiced towards the Daks??

Well I can sure say this: I saw a greenish colored 4-Door Dakota two days ago, with a small lift, probably 32" tires, clean, and was probably the sharpest looking Dakota I've ever seen in real life here in Salt Lake City area. I have seen the Nissan's, Toyota's, and others, and in just eye pleasing, the Dakota wins -- hands down.
Have you guys noticed the new Ford trucks lately? Not just the 4-door ones, but all of them? They sure are of an ugly body style, sort of slanted backward as if attempting to make it aerodynamic? Probably the ugliest trucks I've ever seen. The Ram's look the best out of all the full size trucks!

I don't want to suggest it. But I belive the sponsers have a little sway with those car and truck mags.
I saw a 4x4 mag rate several Extended cab trucks last year. They compaired
1500 ram,150 ford, dakota,toy tundra,nissan,1500 chevy. They dak came out on top. They had several 4x4 tests and the dak came in the top 3 every time. The toy cam down twards the bottom of the group every time. It won one tho. Acceleration. It was the worst by all the tests but got second. I don't get their logic some times.

Did u see the review of 4 door trucks in Consumer Reports? It beat out all the other American manufaturers. It was 2nd I believe. The Toyota Tacoma got 1st due to reliablity. But rated the worst in backseat. The worst was the Nissan Frontier
