Subject: axle flip kit?

call me crazy or stupid or what ever, but i just want an answer. and, "to each, his own"....

i want to lower my 87 4x4 to level it out, i have the front lowered about 3 inches by cranking down the torsion bars. does anyone know if i can use a flip kit and move the axle over top of the springs like the 2wds are? AIM industries sell a 5 inch flip kit for an 87 2wd to flip the axle from on top the the springs to underneath the springs to lift the the rear.

couldnt i just do this in reverse since the actual axle tube would be the same diameter and its the same principle, but in just reverse?

or does anyone know a way to do this. this way seems to be the easiest and cheapest and most effective.

thanks.

steve.

WOW. That is crazy. I just lifted mine 2 inches because the front bottomed out. Cranking the torsions up makes them a lot stiffer.

If you crank them DOWN 3 inches, my guess is it will be very very soft up front. Probably bang the rubber stoppers just going over speed bumps.

Why is it you want to lower the 4X4?

eh, im prolly crazy...but atleast u didnt call me a jackass or somethin in that lines...

i had mine cranked to the max to level the truck out, and it loooked sooo ugly with close to 6 inch wheel gaps. and with the torsions cranked up soo much the ride was horrible i thought.

i wanna do this b/c i live in PA where winter is horrible and i need 4wd, but i dont do any 4 wheeling, and i dont want to have to buy big tires (i had 235/75/15s on it and got a rediculous 11 mpg) with the under powered 3.9 after tuning it up. (new 5.2 coming in summer however)

and i like the look of the sport truck. sure 4x4s look sweet with about 6 inches of lift and 33s, but this is pretty much unattainable with my dakota with my budget. so i figured i could go the other style i like, the lowered.

so i figured if the rear was flipped, id get the drop i needed and still have the 4wd to battle the snow in the winter.

thanks
