Subject: Hammered in NY, BEST SNOW TIRES?

MY STORY: Here in Central NY, we are getting dumped on with Snow worse than we did last year which I didn't think was possible. I tried to make it to work this morning through the fresh 1ft of snow that fell overnight on top of the 3ft we already hade. It was snowing so hard my wipers couldn't keep up and I had to resort to the head out the window trick to stay on the road. After about making it 1/2 mile in 15 minutes and finding several abandoned 4x4's and cars and I realized I better head back home which I did and am glad I didn't continue on to work or I would have been stranded there for sure due to the snow continuing to fall at a 2-3 inches per hour for the last 3 hours.

MY POINT: My lifted Dak in 3ft of snow has little difficulty with getting me everywhere I need to go, last year my tires where 33" BFG AT KO's that performed exceptional on snow covered highways but if the snow was deep enough to slow down my Dak I would get buried and burn a hole so deep I would need pull out. This year that wasn't going to happen again... I bought fairly expensive 34" Mickey Thompson Baja Belted's and have found the only snow tire I will EVER buy again. Not only does my Dak go through everything it could last year with far more confidence and hardly spinning a tire, I have now driven nearly a mile through 3-4ft of snow with little effort. The snow was pushing up onto my hood that stands over 4ft off the ground and only a few times when I slowed down some due to visibility did the tires search a moment for traction and keep propelling me along at a steady pace. As a test and feeling very sure of myself by this point, I even came to a dead stop with a wall of snow in front of me and was able to get my beast moving again with about 30 seconds of tire spinning and working the wheels back n forth to regain traction. When they dig down and grab hold of terra firma, hold on! They obviously self clean exceptionally well and the tread design just eats up whatever it attaches itself to.

BOTTOM LINE: Truly AWESOME Snow tire worth every penny of the $800 I spent, I will be finding out how they peform in Mud this spring!

Anyone else have experience with these tires or a Snow tire they found was unbelievable?

Sounds like some really good tires. We really are gettin hammered with snow up here in CNY. I have been lucky so far tho, 2WD Dak and haven't had any problems. I have let the snow build up in the box for weight though.

I swear by the BFG AT KOs but in a different size - 235-75-15 for snow - the narrower tread gives a better bite. I plow, and have been able to push 2' deep snow with those. The narrower tire means more weight per square inch of tread for a better bite. Whatever works !
