1st thing 1st ya'll, i'm gettin rid of my 97 dakota 4x2 for a 00 f150 4x4 (i'm tired of gettin stuck in my dakota, so i need the 4x4). i was just wonderin if the buckshot maxxis mudder is a good tire on and off road. i have heard they are but i just want 2nd opinions. i have also found a set of 285-75 bfg at's on sale for cheap w/ about 40-45k miles left on them for $275. what do ya'll think would be the better street tire of the two. i just need something good on road and will not get clogged of road. i'm not goin from dodge to ford permanintly, so don't think i'm sellin out. i know ya'll will give good advice since we are the intelegent ones.

i run buckshots, and i love them. theyre cheap, and ride really good. ive got 315/75/16's on my 01 dodge dakota. them do really good off road too for a radial tire. thats just my 2 cents.

I dont know about the Maxxis' but the BFG AT will be a good street tire, but is marginal off road. if you want something to stay clean, go with a mud tire, not an all terrain. also, i would be very surprised to get 40K + miles out of any truck tire.

The only problem with buckshots is that they are a digging tire that digs too much in the loose stuff. Great tire for the $. B.F. Goodrich MT is a great tire that will go better in all terrains but is costly. I think this is one of them "you get what you pay for" things. By the way, the Maxxis mudder bucket radial doesn't go as good as the old bias ply buckshot but won't vibrate you to death on the street. Also the maxxis mudder has no sidebiters. The B.F. does.

Run the 35" Maxxis on my Z71 sub. perfect cross over tire for baja sand / baja highway. Super quite on the road for a mud tire. 35K on them with maybe 5K left. Highly recommended!

brg at's suck in the mud. if you are upgrading to 4 wheel because you're sick of being stuck in the mud, buy a good mud tire, not a all terrain

i have a set of 32" buckshots on my stock wheels that i run on my 01 dakota. they are great tires in the mud and wear really well on the hard top. i also run 34 inch swamper LTB's. when they wear out im buyin more buckshots for my bullet hole wheels, i would definately go with the buckshots. great price great tire

in my opionion the bfg all terrain are a great tire for an everyday driver that someone occasionally takes to the local mud hole. my friend has a jeep yj and hes had bfg all terrains for quite a while and they still have lots of tread on them. most people try to give an estimate on tread wear but it really depends on the driver. i will say this though my friend drives like a mad man and those tires have never let him down on the field or on the street.

I have ran both on a 05 4 door z71. I farm and am on and off the road alot. I got 20,000 miles out of the maxxis. It pulled like hell but I've got over 30,000 miles out of the BFG mud-terrain and still running them. They still pull like the day I bought them. That is just my experience and opinion.

you should compare apples to apples

Mud tires should not be compared to ATs
they cant even compare to each other
each has its purpose

I'll stick with my Cooper STT's! Never owned a better set of tires. I'm the guy that gets called when someone gets stuck around here. I seriously haven't been stuck once since I got those tires. You might at least keep that in mind!
