If you do alot of street driving I would deffinately NOT put any kind of locker or limited slip in the front. If you drive off road only then go ahead but beware turning corners.

There are Lockers available for front axles but they only get used on rock crawlers and serious 4X4's. A street truck is no place for a front locker. I don't know if there are any LSD's for front axles or not, but I doubt there is, and it still wouldn't be a good idea on a street truck.

There are no lockers made for the front axle for a Dakota , because they are already very weak.

jdllizard is correct try to turn with locker in front truck will go straight. Only good with locking hubs but even then you have to be very careful when wheeling.

BTW if you want a home made locker weld up your spiders, spool it up, lol.

The consensus is you can lock your frontend if your an idiot and want to run into trees along the side of the highway or don't drive it on pavement. Otherwise I wouldn't do it.

Hi , I`m Jack Shiit and I do know yes huh , he`s a very knowledgeable guy.
I also know that NO ONE makes a locker for the front end of a Dakota/Durango , if one of you know-it-alls out there that don`t know me , can prove me wrong , then I will shut my piehole!

Until then ....shut your own blow hole!

Ok it looks like we need some clarification here There is NO locker available for the 2000+ Dakotas. That's the year that the front end was switched from a DANA to a Chrysler front end and no longer uses the DANA. For those of you that have a older model truck you can get a locker for the front end. Just look for a DANA 35 locker.

U will be able to turn with a locker on the street as long as 4wd is not enganged. The front locker will not have an effect if 4wd is not engaged. If u have a full time transfer case then a full time locker in the front would not be a good idea in the front on or off road. If it is a full time transfer case then u can buy a selectable locker.

O.k., but answer this, a part time system has an axle disconnect so the front locker is going to be turning all the time. Is this true or not? So wouldn't this cause some adverse driving conditions?

The Dakota front ends don't have an axle disconnect like most part time systems, the tranfer case simply disengages the front so everything including the drive shaft is always spinning so yes, locking the front will cause some grief as would a lsd. My advice if you want a locked front is to go with the ARB so you can turn it on and off as needed. P/N: 35D/ARBH

In three to three hundred years, I'm sure ARB, Detroit, or one of the other diff locker companies will make a switchable locker for the 205mm front differential from Dodge, til then, I don't think there are any out there. Turn it on and off with the flip of a switch (had two in my Ranger -- one on each end ... worked great) -- no worries. Turn it off and the diff behaves as an open differential ... turn it on and the diff behaves as a locked diff (don't plan on making any turns with the front one locked tho -- even just the back one locked can be a little tricky) Little expensive too. Hope this helps.
