usually its the trans seal that surrounds the input. have you recently rebuilt your transfercase. because its easily possible to roll the seal putting the retainer back on. oh and are you low on tranny fluid, or the fluid in the transfercase? whats it in? what year? how many miles? ALSO check the easy things first like all your vent tubing making sure of no clogs like mud.

I have a 98 Durango 4x4. I am experiencing the same problem. Its transmission fluid leaking from the little hole between the trans & transfer case. I didnt think to check for mud clogging the vent though...it is kinda muddy under there too. I just add fluid and have been driving it as im low on cash too. It only leaks sometimes too, not all the time, kinda strange. My truck has 117800 miles on it too and has never had trans or t-case work done to it to mess up the seal. If anyone has suggestions please let us know. Thanks.

i have a a problem with my transfercase on my 98 durango i just wish it was a simple as these posted. about 4 months ago i had my transmission rebuilt there were problems with the gears so it was worked on. well a week ago while on the freeway my transfercase cracked and there telling me im going to need a rebuilt or brand new one put in gave me a price of $1200.00 my question is is there a way to bypass the transfercase making it a 2 wheel drive for howeverlong it takes me to get that 1200. and does 1200 sound about right? and what the hell caused this to happen i was driving about 65mph heard a bang and vibrations and then there it was cracked the houssing that meets the drive shaft. any advice would really be appreciated.
