I was surfing the web once and found a kit that would make my full time 4X4 able to go into 4X2. But I did not save the web page.

Does anyone know who makes that replacment shaft?

It's a 2000 Durango R/T. The transfer case is full time 4X4, or I can put it in part time, 4 low and 4 high. That's all I know about it. I had a '99 Dakota 4X4 and it had the same but also had the option to put it in 2 wheel drive. I saw a kit that would do that but can't find who makes it.

You mean a AWD system? Well the part time 4x4 is basicly a 2wd, but when the wheels start to spin. The front kick in. Its the same as on the Silverado Z71 pickups and GMs midsized SUVs.

Actually, part time 4x4 is CONSTANTLY driving the front wheels, not just when it slips. Full-time is made to be driven on road, and part-time for off raod conditions. Full time runs a diff like mechanism between the front and rear axles so that all four wheels can spin at different speeds while part time is a solid drive between the front and rear diffs. At least this is my understanding. I have full-time and part-time options in my Durango and when it is in part-time and i turn the wheel on pavement it feels like the drivetrain is about to split in 20 different dirrections, but in full time its as smooth as 2wd.

What year did they start putting these on Dakotas? I have a '92 and '95 4x4 models, and if I have one jacked up and hit the gas with it in 2high, only the rear wheels spin. I like it this way because I fully control my drivetrain.

That is because you have a 2high option the key there is "2" two wheel drive (rear wheel) my Durango did not come with that option. But a company makes a shaft that converts it. That is what I am looking for.

It seems to me Dodge really should have made Durango RTs with a transfer case with two options, 2WH and 4WH-FullTime. I love having 4 modes in my transfer case, very useful. Probably adds considerable weight though.
