i cant remember who i talked to, but they said that by tightening the torsion bars in the front it would give me about 1-1 1/2" lift. is this true, and how would i go about doing this. im a former jeeper and have never dealt with torsion bars.
thanks,

Walt knows what he's talking about. If you want another source, check out this site:

Remember, a torsion bar only exists on 4x4 models of trucks. And after you get them cranked up, about a 5 minute job, definitely get the 1" spacer in the rear axle, and finally when you are done, ALWAYS get an alignment done after it!!! Very important! Especially with new tires.

thanks for the replys. i noticed both people had older dakotas. will this work on a 2000. also, has anyone else thought of tightening the torsion bars in front and then putting add a leafs in the rear. i know it would stiffen the ride, but its a truck, who cares. let me know what you guys think.
thanks,

Corey, I raised mine about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Wasnt having any problems, just dont think mine were set right from the factory. Best friends truck is identical to mine and sat 1/2 inch higher in the front. Also the weight of my grill guard dropped it a little. If you max out the torsion bars it will put an awful lot of strain on them. Wouldnt give you but about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of extra height anyway. I have 32's stock and to go to 33's you need a 3 inch lift. I gues it just doesnt seem like it would be worth it.

to raise the front, would you tighten the bolt or loosen it. i looked at mine, and it is as tight as it is going to get. its a 2000 and i got it with 14,000 miles on it, and to my knowledge they were never tightened before.
thanks,

hey guys i'm glad i come to check this site out. i've been kinda upset that every time i look at another dakota 4x4 they look like they set higher than mine. i wanted to get a lift kit but there are exspensive and in pennsylvania some say body lifts are illegal and others say suspension lifts are illegal who knows.i herd that you could do that with the t bars also if i could just get like an inch or maybe a bit more or less in the front i would be happy.do you have to turn the bars them selves or are there bolts to use?if someone could e-mail me i would be happy. i have 97 dakota ext cab w/the 318 5.2 v8 thank you hope to hear from someone kurteicher@hotmail.com thanks again.

My dakota slopes down lower in the front and was wondering why I would need blocks in the back if I raised the front to be level. I dont want the ass to be sagging so what should I do?

Kurt - when I got my t-bars cranked, I was at a local alignment/tire shop and I told the guy "I have been thinking about getting them cranked." He then proceeded to be a nice guy and said he would do it for me. With an air compressor and an impact wrench, took him about 5 minutes. He then did an alignment for me, too.

I got about 1.5", and another 1.5" when I got the new BFG A/T tires on there. 3" isnt too bad for not spending big bucks on a real suspension lift.

hey hawkeye, you are running 32-11.50's with no lift, only by adjusting the torsion bars? you are right, the lift is just too darn expensive.

i have seen alot of post on t-bars,so i looked at my 2001 4by4 club, and the front is about 2"lower than back, and i read alot of posts about failing ball joints, could it be that dodge keeps the front lower to keep stress off the ball joints?i might just have to crank them.!

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
Im a 13 year old student by morning, and mechanic by afternoon.
By tightening your tortion bars, the lower part of the tire will cave in, there will be more ware on the outside of the tire.
If you loosen, there will be more ware on the inside because the tires will open up at the bottom.
Take this into consideration!!!
