Subject: Changing R&P out on a 4x4 rearend
IP: Logged

Message:
I am needing to change out the gears in my rear end and front but they do not make the 4.11's yet for the front axle on my 2000 QC Dak. They are supposed to come out sometime in the middle of the year per the guy at Randy's Ring and Pinion. I am wondering would it hurt to drop my front drive shaft until the front gears are available. My truck is having a hard time towing my boat right now due to the size of my tires (33's) and the 3.55 gears that are in it now.

I'm thinking of changing my '99 to 4.10 gears. I can do the rear end my self, but will drive it to a shop to have them do front end. If you remove the front driveshaft, you will have no problems as the front end is totally disconnected from rest of drivetrain to spin on it's own. Just hope you don't need 4x4 while you wait!!

Just double checkin that statement...It is OK to remove the front driveshaft and use only 2WD? I have often thought about this as I use 4WD about 5 times per year. I truly hope 4.11 or 4.10 gears come out for out front ends...I might have to wait just a little longer to re-gear. I hate waiting. I tow quite a bit too, and I have stock tires right now. The altitude just kills power.
